 What is wrong with my AAC M4-2000 suppressor's coating and engravings? Will AAC fix it?

First off, I know this is not a problem with how the suppressor works, but with about $1200 put into this suppressor after the tax stamp, I expect it to all be perfect...even the coating and engravings on it. This is unacceptable to me for $1200 and a 6 month wait.

I bought this M4-2000 from www.silencershop.com back in November, and just took possession of it. It is a very reputable shop and I trust the owner.

This brand new AAC M4-2000 suppressor looks like it had the original coating blasted off, then a new flatter and less black coating applied to it. The engraving on it is also very shallow, and in some places, it is completely gone. The finish on it also has no semi gloss look to it like the finish normally looks like on AAC suppressors. Since this suppressor is brand new which is very obvious if you look inside of it, I assume this is a mistake from the factory. Has anyone worked with AAC with fixing problems like this? I would like the exgravings on it to be made correct and depp, as well as have the correct coating applied to it.

I have included pictures to show you guys the engravings and finish on it compared to my SDN-6 suppressor. It is very obivous in person, but these pictures kind of show what I am talking about.

I did send an e-mail to AAC as well, but am curious to hear your opinions.

I think its the camera angle. OP, from your pics, the finish wouldn't bother me that much (although it is different than the SDN-6) but the stampings are lighter than I would consider acceptable. Some of them you can't even read and that sucks after all the wait time. I hope AAC makes you happy.

Edit: for spelling

Edit2: After looking at your pics again, I'd be willing to bet something went wrong in the original finish application and it had to be removed and re-done. This is what caused the engravings to be so shallow.

FWIW, I've seen a few different M4-2000s and the finish of the newer ones was different from the older ones. I believe the older ones had more of a glossy finish and the newer or refinished ones were more matte. I had a AAC can worked on for a warranty issue and it was refinshed to a more matte like black.

I'm not sure about the engravings.

I spoke with Mike on the phone just now, and he said to mail it back. Turn around should be 2-3 weeks. Awesome.

That's incredible. Supposedly "glk34" has been trying to get in contact with ANYONE at AAC for a month (according to his thread on this same page) and hasn't been able to, but you called one day and got Mers? Would you mind saying what number you called?

I have never had a problem getting a real live person on the phone at AAC.

That's very interesting, because I've also had no problem getting in contact with AAC in the past. I'm starting to think that other thread is just AAC-bashing, but since I haven't been standing next to the guy when he made the phone calls, it's impossible to say that for sure. Just very interesting that he's the only one who has problems contacting them.

Thread derailment aside, I've noticed that my SDN-6 has a much nicer finish than the M4-2000s and Rangers I've seen. The finish on yours wouldn't bother me at all, but it's obviously not as nice as your N-6.

I wouldn't either.

Then again, I've put about 700rds through my SDN6 since getting it approved a few weeks ago and my can is scratched up and stuff. Just doesn't bother me.

I can understand that some folks like to keep their stuff nice, though.

If you actually use that thing, the paint will be burnt off and it will be covered with melted nylon. I can't believe anyone would even consider sending that back.

Actually, AAC has been hard to get ahold of for the last couple of months; but, they are getting that resolved. Going forward, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those recent complaints start to go away now.

I'll chime in that he didn't pay $1200 for the actual suppressor. He's adding the cost of the suppressor + mount + sales tax + tax stamp.

To the guys saying "I wouldn't send it back. It'll just get used." That is correct, however I just like my things to be nice and I like the defects on things that I own to be caused by myself and no one else, especially not from a factory. If you were to buy a new car, and the paint on it was messed up, but it drove fine, would you just say "Oh well, it'll get like that eventually as I drive it anyways."? I don't think so.

I don't use my cars like I use my suppressors, nor did my suppressor cost $20,000.

If the car was going to be used the same way my cans are used, then no, I wouldn't have a problem.

engraved on separate lines? Mil vs. Dist? They probably produce a $hitload of suppressors, Not saying your concern is no issue. I have a SDN6 that has been tied up in the process about 2 miles from my office. Any day now I can check mine out also,

LOL, so true! It' a fact you don't know until you know. I used to want my can to look perfect, but things that get to 1000 degrees have a hard time staying in pristine condition.

As already mentioned, there are no defects in that can, as far as I can see.

AAC has used a variety of different finishes, and they do not all look the same. Take the can back to your dealer and compare it to similar cans in that SN range and you will see they are the same.

Really?

I was PIG hunting.

Read up.

"Thank you for your question about the legality of hunting non-game animals in Oklahoma with a noise suppressed firearm. The Director has forwarded your question to me for a response.
Title 29 of the State Wildlife Code, section 5-201, Means of taking wildlife-Exceptions-Fines and punishments, states in paragraph A. Except as otherwise provided for in this section, no person may utilize at any time, for the purpose of killing or capturing any game mammal, game bird or nongame bird, the following means:
1. Any trap, net, snare, cage, pitfall, baited hook or similar device;
2. Any drug, poison, narcotic, explosive or similar substance;
3. Any swivel or punt gun of greater caliber than ten(10) guage;
4. Any device which generates electricity; or
5. Any device which noticeably suppresses noise from a firearm, commonly known as a silencer

The definition of a “game mammal”, according to Title 29, is “any mammalian species normally sought after by sportsmen and protected by this Code, or any part of such animal”.

The definition of a predatory mammal is “any mammal which preys upon another mammal or bird for food, and includes only coyote and wolf”. Therefore, with a coyote being a predatory mammal and not a game mammal, they would be legal for an individual to hunt using a suppressed or silenced firearm.

Our Agency does not consider the feral hog to be a wildlife species, thereby making it also legal to hunt using a suppressed or silenced firearm. Please familiarize yourself with the regulations regarding the hunting of feral swine and coyote during antelope, bear, deer and elk firearm seasons.

This explanation, of course assumes you possess the necessary permits to own a suppressor.

Thank you again for contacting us with your question regarding hunting in Oklahoma with a suppressed firearm.

Sincerely,

Robert Fleenor
Acting Chief, Law Enforcement Division
Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation "

Back on topic.. The finish wouldnt bother me at all. I have krylon on mine and have beat the brush with it while deer and pig hunting. I never even cleaned the mud off the side of it from my last Oklahoma pig hunt.

Ummm.....I'm sorry man, but I called again today, and talked to someone just like every other time I've called.....

I called yesterday and got the stupid recording again. I am just calling the number listed on their site.

That's weird. I'm sorry you are having a hard time reaching them.

I literally called Wednesday at about 2pm, Eastern time. First thing I did as soon as I got the automated system was hit "3" on my keypad for Tech Support. I got put on hold for maybe a maximum of 5 minutes and then got put on the line with a gentleman by the name of Brent, who got me taken care off in about 3 minutes. I'm in the process of trying to get my M4-2000 sent in to get a new latch put in. I had an RMA less than an hour after I sent my first email.

OP either A.) you aren't trying very hard. B.) you just have shitty luck, or C.) you're calling the wrong line, or doing something wrong. Now, this isn't a personal attack, so don't go flipping your shit and getting your panties wadded. I'm just saying that here recently especially, AACs customer service has been pretty good. I know that in the past, it's been shitty, lackluster at BEST, but these days, as long as you're calling during business hours, you should get somebody on the horn. If you haven't gotten anybody on the phone, try emailing Brent@advanced-armament.com

Explain the situation, and detail your issues. The dude is squared away and will get your shit taken care of.

I am.

It's beginning to be the only logical explanation.
