 AR-15 MG question

I am looking at buying a AR-15 that was converted for F/A. This particular one has a 10.5" upper installed. I was wanting to understand the process for being able to use different uppers on this. The rifle has screws in place at the front pivot point. I want to be able to use different calibers on this in the future and these builds will most likely be 16" barrels. By removing the current upper from the lower, do I need to do SBR paperwork to do that? This would be my only AR-15/M-16 lower. I have always dealt with HK's so I have been reading around and see information basicly stating the a 10.5" upper is not considered a SBR by itself, only when installed on a lower. Since my lower is a MG, there is no need to SBR paperwork to be done. Thanks for the help

Machine gun trumps SBR.

If you have a Registered M16/ machine gun, you can switch to any barrel length you want. No filing for an SBR needed.

ETA: You answered you own question.

Machine gun has no barrel length restrictions ... free for all as machine gun is king of the hill.

Correct, unlike HK the upper on an AR is not the firearm they are just a part.
