The LAR Grizzly is down for the count, temporarily, since I broke the bolt handle off at the MI HTF shoot. The bolt likes to stick after firing, depending on ammo, since I shoot mostly surplus, and I normally use a wooden handle from a hammer to tap on the bolt handle... I guess the stud broke?

It looks like there is a 5/16 stud that threads into the handle, and then screws into the bolt. It also looks like the handle has a helicoil... Prior repair?

I had loctited the handle into the bolt with blue loctite a while back, to keep it from constantly loosening up, whether tapping on it or not, so rather than extract the pieces, I'm just going to send it in. At least the bolt came out. And I know there is FAR less chance of it getting screwed up if it gets done at their shop, rather than me using a cordless, lol.

Note to self: Brazilian surplus AP likes to stick, a lot more than any of the other ammo I've used.

I was surprised that the bolt handle only threads into a 5/16 hole.

Oh well, I'm sending the whole assembly off to LAR this week, so we shall see. I'm waiting for their response where they call me a retard, lol.

If you have an LAR with a match chamber, a lot of surplus ammo will be very tight in the chamber. My rule of thumb when I have tight extraction is that I use the handle of the hammer, put pressure on the bolt with my hand, and use lots of smaller taps rather just whacking it.

Good luck with getting it fixed.

I wouldn't say anything about hammering the bolt handle... LAR was good about repairing a broken firing pin in a friends Grizzly a couple years ago. Good luck!

Well, I was completely up front and honest with them, and they said that not only did the older model have extraction issues..... THEY WILL UPGRADE IT FOR FREE, I just have to pay to ship it to them.

He wasn't even phased when I told him that I bought it used, although used meant I pay to ship it THERE, not back, or that I had to use a rubber mallet, or a handle, to get the bolt out.

The rifle is a standard chamber, not match.

These guys KICK ASS!

I had that problem with mine, but I sent mine back for that upgrade they do with the older models, like mine. It's much better now. They add a slight caming action to the bolt, so as you are lifting the bolt handle it also starts to pull back.

Excellent, this should work out nicely
