Father and Son Hunter Set for a pig hunt
I will be heading off this Thurs to my first hunt with my oldest son since about 1993. We are going to Texas to hunt pigs. I decided to commemorate the event I would make a set of hunters. Here they are.
Both are 6 bar Turkish Twist. Blades are 4.5 inches long and about .125 thick. Fixtures are 416SS with black, red and phosphor bronze spacers. Top knife is stabilized Maple that has been dyed brown. Bottom knife is stabilized claro walnut.
And a close up of the blades
And the handles
Hope you enjoyed the pics
Hope you enjoy the hunt.
love the damascus on those. Very nice as always with your work.
Thanks Guys. I will enjoy the hunt one way or another. The Red Goat will be our host, when I spoke with him he advised being prepared to go without much sleep. We will be hunting till we drop. Sounds like my kind of hunt.
Beautiful knives. Me likey.
Beautiful set, your son is very lucky. Enjoy your hunt!
Stunning knives. You do beautiful work. Have fun in the great state of Texas!
Both are very nice looking knives, but I'm a lover of maple so I do have a favorite. Have fun on your hunt!
I completely fell in love with the one on the bottom.
It's like an archetype for my ideal knife.

Beautiful knives.
Pardon my ignorance, but are those knives for show or do you plan on using them on the hunt? I don't think I would ever use them in fear of damaging them!

I believe they plan to use them to skin hogs.
Unless we get close enough to wrassle one to the ground and stab it.

Yup, if we do get a hog we will use them to.process them. They are meant to be used and I plan to do just that. Mine is now my carry blade.
Btw, son chose the bottom one. Will.have proper sheaths made for.them when I get home.

Sorry about the lack of sleep...you warned them HAHA.
Sure glad Y'all encluded me in one of the hunts...we had a blast, like over 40 shots fired on three ambushes. Good job the buzzards will be flying.
I'll post these pics in the hog forums and Y'all can finish the story
The bearded one doesn't look like he's there for the hunting.
BTW, I liked him better in the first Hangover.
One of the knives in action:

This was the best I could do to get the pattern work from the Turkish to show up.

He was absolutely there for the hunting, He made the kill shot. BTW he is stopped all the time about the hangover. Even at Disneyland

We had been talking about that very subject that evening.

TRG,
That shot really shows the pattern well. It is a tough one to capture in a photo.
Very fine work. Clean and sound.
