TLR Light mounted on MSAR / AUG

I have been considering mounting a light on my E4 but have not seen any ideal places to mount one without adding aftermarket rails. In keeping the factory 1.5x optic on, I'm kind of a purist in that sense where I actually prefer to preserve the general silhouette of the original rifle.....
I have seen various pictures and videos of lights such as the TLR or even other tube lights mounted on the right side factory rail just above the trigger/ guard area, in front of the right hand but behind the support hand foregrip. I was wondering how one would operate the light in this position? It would seem the light would have to be flicked/pushed on with the trigger finger?

Any other option for mounting a light on the facory configuration of rails?

9"side rail plus 2020 rail puts it in the right spot...

Your pretty much stuck with using your trigger finger unless you get an aftermarket rail set up like Rogers (2020) top or bottom rail.

With a TLR on a 6" accessory rail, you can access the constant-on rocker w/the trigger finger and/or use a tapeswitch on the VFG.

Side rail is key, not a TLR but same difference-

I use the MSAR factory 12" top rail with the step down. It drops the TLR down out of the line of sight and I can operate the paddle switch with mu thumb while my hand is on the forward grip.

now that is dang cool! Someone should make something like that if the original is no longer avilable....(hint hint)

is that part of the 12" rail or a separate piece that can be installed even with the factory 1.5x optic on? How is it attached?

be careful using a TLR-1 on a rifle. I had one mounted on an AR and the back plate (made of plastic) broke - dumping the batteries. This was after an intensive week-long class. I use the TLR-1s on my handguns without any hesitation as the back plate / switch is protected by the front of the trigger guard.

Hope this helps,
Mike

If the main rail on the bi-level were E4 height instead of STG height - it would be absolutely the perfect option.

Hey McMahan, I have seen many mounted like yours but don't quite understand how the light is activated in that postion? Seems like a bit of a reach in a wierd position for the trigger finger no?

simpe is good usually! What kind of barrel mount is that you are using? Also would you be activating the lever with the thumb of your left hand? If so, you would need to be gripping the front similar to an AR foregrip correct?

It's a surefire mount for an AR...I'm sure you can find a cheaper universal mount though.

I normally shoot Aussie style (grip folded), but sometimes with grip down, I don't wrap my hand around like a broomstick, just four fingers with thumb out to operate light.

Hey man, I guess I'm in a unique position in that I shoot lefty. When my right hand is on the front of the trigger guard area I can actuate it with my thumb.

Here is how I did my 7.62 E4. The Optic sits high enough that you do not even see the TLR in the sight picture.
