 Wholesalers who provide spent shells

I am a new FFL holder and one of the lucky ones to be living in one of the tough regulation states, Maryland. Maryland requires a spent shell from the manufacturer on any gun shipped to Maryland. My problem is when a customer wants a Taurus, Sig Saur, Beretta, to name a few, I cannot get my wholesaler to ship to me. Davidson's has the least amount of handguns I can get from due to this. I read somewhere that some wholesalers provide the provide the spent shell so they can ship to Maryland.

My question is, does anyone know the name of a wholesaler that will ship these brands to Maryland?

Thanks

MJ

Can you provide your own? If the distributor doesn't provide one with the firearm when you get it why can't you shoot one through the firearms and provide it to the customer. They just put the spent case in a little envelope with your name, date, caliber and serial number on it then seal it up.

An FFL 07 is required in order to produce the spent shell and provide it to the State Police.

FFL07 is what many of the more successful FFLs in MD do, just for the sake of being able to provide the fired shell. As far as i know none of the distributors provide this service because they are all mostly 01's, and many of the handguns with the sample fired shell carry a small premium over the handguns packaged for free states. The ITAR fee to the state department makes the 07 license a pretty hefty initial investment however.

Are you opening a store front or doing this kitchen table style? Send me a pm because i can help you get started, and give you some options.

The distributors just sell you the gun. They are not going to go fire it and give you a spent shell. The spent casings in the case with the gun are provided by the factory.

Not all manufacturers provide the spent shell, which usually comes in a sealed envelope right from the factory.

You cannot blame the distributor, why not work at getting your state law changed? If you are finding that certain firearms do not come with the spent case why not contact the manufacturer and let them know they should start doing this.

Theres no alternative for the state collecting a shell if one wasn't provided? NYS also has the shell casing law and we have an alternative if the gun shows up without one.

nope.

the sad thing is, the program to catalog the shells I. unfounded and has been for several years, so the fired shells just get tossed into a storage trailer iirc. they keep the requirement as a hurdle.
