For those of you who have run both, do you think this lawsuit has merit?

I own neither, so I don't know what to think.

I have one of the first 516s before they changed the bcg.
Sig tried to get me to send it back to them but I said no thanks.
Looks alot like the lwrc ;)

Every body is making a piston ar now days. Is LWRC claiming only they have a right to make a piston AR upper? If so that is a violation itself in trad einfringment and running a monopoly.

I don't think you have a good understanding of how patents work.

I recently saw pictures of the internals, particularly the BCG and they looked to be to-the-millimeter identical.

I think LWRC might actually have a real case here. Sig should brace for a proper assfucking.

From the patent drawings I saw it showed their old original style bolt carrier. The one with the bolted on carrier key. Not the current one that SIG may or may not have copied. Did LWRC do a new patent on their redesigned carrier?

The Patent I looked at was for LWRC's "self cleaning gas system". So I ask, are they suing over the carrier design or over the whole idea of a gas piston AR?

If for the carrier, I hope they did a new or amended patent on the new carrier, or else I don't see how they can claim patent infringement.

If it's on the whole idea of the gas piston AR, then I don't see it either as there are several gas piston AR designs out there and some that pre-date by a long time LWRC's patent. I have the SIG 516 and looked at the patent drawings for LWRC's system. I don't see any similarities beyond the basic concept which would be pretty much common to all gas piston ARs. The only thing I see that may have been copied is the current bolt carrier, and that wasn't the one pictured in the patent drawings I saw, so unless they patented the new bolt carrier, I don't see this being such a cut and dried case as some seem to think it is.

Then there is also the question of the "recall". Did SIG change the bolt carrier just enough to keep it from being considered an exact copy? Does their issuing of the recall constitute due diligence on SIG's part to remedy the complaint?

This lawsuit was filed a 6 months ago. Has any progress been made on it? Is it even moving forward at all?

Anyone think of this. Could LWRC have copied the piston pushrod type of system from Swiss Arms original 550/551? Sig has had their rifle and piston design much longer than LWRC.
