Original rr sight added to 556/552 SBR - - - - Who can?
I have a sig 556P that I SBR a couple of years ago. I used a swiss sig semi 552 lower receiver and the 556P upper.
I have changed from a set of aurora sights to an Acog TA-24sr (1.5X). Went to the range yesterday and reallly like the combination.
But I want to build a second SBR in the more traditional configuration. I want to have a sig rr sight welded on to the second gun and have the upper
refinished to match the sig grey finish. I also will need to have the dust cover removed and replaces after the sight is welded on and the required engraving.
Who is capable of doing the job well?
Do I purchase the rr sight from Colorado guns?
What is the estimated labor cost for site , refinish, and dust cover install?
If the cost is reasonable I will go this route, if not then I think I will just purchase the bolt on sight and rail from CGS.
Thanks for your help.
cgs can do all of that for you. it won't be cheap though. i believe they are one of the few shops that can re rivet the dust cover back on besides sig.
Well, first you need a sight!
Only $499.99 from CGS, or snag one form a 55x parts kit. About $1500 or so.
The good news is the US 556 receiver has the same shape as the Swiss guns. Removing the sight from a receiver stub is slow work in order not to damage the base. Then you have the option to shorten the rail or remove it. I will remove mine completely, then fill the original screw holes. Bad news is, you need a 55x front sight assembly to be the correct height for the rear. 556 sights are taller than the 55x guns.
CGS can refinish the upper for $325 including R&R the dust cover. Not sure about rivets that will work, and Duracoat makes Sig 551 Gray that is an excellent match for a Swiss lower receiver.
Pretty expensive proposition when you include labor for the rear sight install if someone does it for you. Shit, it's a lot if you do it yourself. Just depends how bad you want to be better than your friends!
Yes, I knew the cost of the rear sight. I did not know CGS was capable of this work though. I will call and talk to them.
Can't say I'm in a race to impress my friends with this project. Most of my friends would pull out an old 30-06 bolt/deer rifle
to show you their collection––-they wouldn't know what a sig 556/552 is. Thanks for the help, I really love this SBR.
Great balance, great looks, accurate and a soft shooter.
Or you can get the clamp on SIG rear sight from CGS.

Likely the best way to go. Keep the rail, and you have a 552 A3!
By the time you buy the parts, the original pistol, and the labor, you might as well have bought one of the Midwest SIG 552s.
Those sights are mucho expensive! But I plan on getting one for my Classic

Agreed, but the only issue is that Midwest ran out of 552s about a month ago. I wish I'd bought two.
I did buy a 552 from Midwest and I also wish I had bought 2. I don't want to shoot the 552 though. I have the 556/552 sbr for shooting.
I decided to try the CGS rail mounted rear sight on this first SBR just because it would be so much easier. If I like it I can put one on the second 556/552, if not then back to plan A. As far as cost, I have almost as much in the 556/552 as I paid for the 552. I don't mind the cost though, I really love these rifles.
