The 556 Russian
Anyone seen the newest version of the 556R and I mean the one that comes with the new Swiss stock? I have yet to see one for sale anywhere...
I am interested in this as well, I don't think they are "technically" out. I have heard the updated SIG 556R will be out around Jan.

Well, I orderded the Swiss stock 1.5 weeks ago and asked the guy when the newest 556R was comming out. He said they are actualy shipping them now. I figured 1.5 weeks, someone should have at least one in stock. He also said that the Swiss stock is now standard on all rifles.
Well, I ordered the SIG 551-A1 lower and stock and it arrived yesterday. The new 550 stock is standard on all 2012 models, but my SIG rep told me that only the "fixed older 556R" are out and he expects the new 556R with the sidefolder and upgrades to be out around Jan.

Isn't that funny how they can't get their stories staight?
The first thing you learn about SIG is that nobody there, knows what the hell is going on.
They must be doing a whole new receiver design for the 556R models.
Seems that they are learning from bad experiances. They have got their act together with the 556 and 516. I beleive they are going to release teh 556R after testing it a lot to confirm reliability.

What leads you to believe this? I think with the revamp of the 556 A-1, 516 in .300 blackout, the SIG direct gas impingment M4 rifle, and the production of the 516 and possible .308 version, the 556R has gone to the back burner. I think we will see the 556R probably brought up at SHOT 2012 as a side note.
Somebody commented on a YouTube video about how the gun was being re-engineered. Plus, they don't seem to be doing fixes to customer's 556R's and sending them back out like they were. I'm guessing that they are overhauling the lower's design. I hope I'm wrong as it would mean that though my late spring 2011 production 556R will run great, it won't be the latest / greatest version.

Do you have a link to this video, I am not trying to be a jerk just interested.

Looks like I'm getting a 556 swat patrol to tide me over until the kinks are worked out.
I really wish that they would make a pistol version, that would fulfill my 7.62x39 fantasies.

Interesting comments below each of these videos about what Sig has been telling 556R owners...
