Anyone see the new Sig SBRs for 2012?

I noticed several new SBRs for 2012 on Sig's new products page here. The one that really caught my eye was the 551-A1SBR. Anyone know when these would be available? Also, anyone know a Sig dealer who is also a SOT so that I could place an order?

Thank you,
Little_Bo

I don't have answers to any of your questions... but that A1 is the bee's f'n knees.

The A1 is nice but I like the 12" .308 and SIG556xi 10". Just another reason to move to a free state.

Don't move. Make your state free.

Weve been trying. We got supressors last year. SBR/SBS is next.

Huh. Looks a lot like a 552.

Guess this is going on my "buy" list for this year, or next.

ETA:

One more edit: 1799 MSRP? This year's list, then.

Actual prices will come down toward $1,250 if they follow the normal pattern.

Yeah that 551 is pretty sexy. I'm really digging that 716 SBR.

Anyone notice what looks to be an enhanced/extended mag release on the 556xi?

Already have a 551-A1, now I need the 10". The 522 10" will also be mine just for shits and giggles.

Do they sell that flash hider separately? I wouldnt mind having one for the 556 Classic, but my bonus might go toward one of these SBR's............those are very nice

Anyone know if this has an adjustable gas system?

I would image it does, it has the "switch" above the barrel in front of the front sight in the picture.

And this is the reason I can't force myself to buy Sig.. They are missing out on a large amount of sales (complete rifles and parts) due to not selling simple spare parts. Truly upsetting as I would love to own one. Maybe someday Sig will get their head out of their ass.

I was very excited to see the introcduction of the xi model. I like the the 4 ounce weight savings over the SWAT model. I would love to buy the SBR, but unfortuantely my agency mandates a minimum barrel length of 10.5". I talked to our Sig rep yesterday about it. Looks like my only real option is going to be to purchase a 16" model, have the barrel cut down, and then register it. I need to start saving a few pennies I guess.

Stupid suggestion: Can you just pin the flash hider?

I can't wait to get my hands on their 556R SBR.

Oh wait, for some reason they don't make that.

My local dealer emailed me, he put in orders for the 551-A1 and 522. He said SIG quoted him a summer release, leaves me time to save money

I want, no, I need this. This is the Sig I always wanted.

Anybody know if it will take a real 552 handguard? The cap dohickey looks the same as the real 552.

Also, I wonder why they went with a 10" barrel as opposed to the "real" 8.9".

That's why I suspect not.

Still nice, though.

Department policy requires that the barrel be a minimum of 10.5" NOT including any type of flash hider or muzzle brake.

One reason could be because most(if not all) suppressor companys will not warranty their 5.56 suppressors on a barrel less than 10 inches.

The 551A1 SBR is pretty slick looking and if prices are at or below $1400 I'll be buying my first Form 4 SBR.

No, it will not accept a 552 handguard. The 556 SBR, including the 551-A1 SBR, gas system is that of the 556 Pistol and Patrol Carbine, which is about 1/2 inch longer than that of the 552/553. The 556 SBR, pistol and patrol carbine gas piston is the same diameter as that of the 550/551/556, while the 552/553 uses a slightly smaller piston diameter.

They did not go with an 8.9 inch barrel because it would require use of the 552 or 553 gas system.

I wrote a review/comparison of 552 and 553 operating systems here:
