I was looking at ADT but.......just wondering what you guys use? I dont have a land line so I guess it would have to cell phones.

Any suggestions?

Most companies have cellular dialers as an option (often as a backup to a land-line). Even DIY systems can do that, as well as backup over your home network connection.

I prefer hard wired a system connected by cell.
Depends on where you live as to weather the police will respond to an alarm.

After doing some research on this forum, I ordered a SimpliSafe alarm system yesterday. $15 /month for dedicated cellular monitoring by a UL listed monitoring center + no contract = good enough for me.

From what I've seen, other users on this site have had good experiences with them.

Ok, new homeowner here (yay, I think). We close in February, but due to the work schedules of my wife and I, we will be out of town 25 days a month for the foreseeable future. The property (condo) has been vacant going through the foreclosure process for over a year now, and my wife and I feel that the property may have used up all of its good luck in that time frame. Hence, we are looking to install an alarm system ASAP after closing.

After looking at packages, it seems all too confusing as to what I NEED compared to what is offered as a "package."

Can Ya'll help me out as to how many keypads / motion sensors / door and window sensors etc. that you chose on your system? Something generic like "sensor on all first floor glass, and second floor yadda yaddas."

Some notes about the property: 2 story townhouse, 950 sq. feet, end unit. Two entry doors (front and garage), and one sliding glass door, 2 or 3 windows first floor, 3 or 4 windows second floor. Two Basement non glass-block single pane vent windows.

Also, any general tips about what you would do (eg, charley bar sliding glass door, glass block install in basement, etc.)

I will also look at that simplisafe.com.

Thanks again for any help,

Rob

Take a look at the system by 2Gig.

I just put one in my new house and pretty impressed with it.

It is also compatible with most of the Honeywell 5800 series wireless sensors.

Several no contract monitoring options available through alarm.com.
