I have a tall skinny window that does not open right next to my front door.

I want to mount a panel of poly-carbonate inside of of window to keep someone from braking the window and unlocking the deadbolt.

Suggestions? Material? Best way to mount it?

I had the same situation, many of these are a standard size next to the front door. Lowes or Home Depot has a factory retrofit that screws over the top, it adds a second layer of poly or glass with built in blinds. It was a snap to install, adds privacy and security.

You could also switch your deadbolt to a captive thumb turn, basically a double sided deadbolt with a removable thumbturn, Medeco among others make these.

You can get a security film from companies that tint windows. You have to chop through the window with an axe. It is clear. It is very common in huricane areas. I had it on my chicagoland windows on the side of my front door.

I have the same situation with a double deadbolt. All you gotta do is put the key out of immediate reach/sight from the window if you are worried for fire reasons.

This should be a standard practice for any doors that have or are near windows that would provide access to the back of the lock when broken.
