Rem 700 barrel on a Mauser?

I've seen references to putting Rem 700 barrels on a Mauser (not sure if large or small ring).
I've done some google searching and haven't had much luck.

Can anyone please clarify this for me? Is it a simply assembly or do the threads need to be recut?

Just trying to do some research before starting a new project.

thanks

I remember hearing this as well. Unfortunately I don't know the particulars. I do believe, however that the R700 threads are 60 degrees, while most mausers are 55 degree threads. It's not a simple screw in, IIRC.

New threads and adjustment of the tenon length will be required. Sporter weight Model 700 barrels don't have a lot of real estate remaining to set the barrel back far.

Most 98 Mausers are threaded 1.100 X 12 threads per inch. Mexican Mausers are 1.000 X 12 tpi. Model 700's are 1.063 X 16 tpi.

I wouldn't spend the money to do a bunch of work on a Remington factory barrel.

Perhaps you are thinking of an FAL, with a barrel tenon of 1" x 16 tpi. Remington 700 barrels are a reasonable avenue to rebarreling an FAL.
