Form 1 question
I have a trust and plan on sending off a form-1 for my GSG-5, in order to do so i have to know barrel length and OAL. Is it legal for me to build the rifle and take measurements in order to properly fill out the form?? Then after i get measurements while my form is pending am I allowed to have the rifle put together, or even in pieces in the same geographical location?
Decide on your barrel length, calculate the overall length and put it down on the form 1. You cannot legally start the build until you have your form 1 in hand.

Measure the overall length as it is today. Subtract the amount you plan to cut off the barrel from that, and you get the intended OA length. Same for the barrel.
You also could post over in the SBR forum, where lots of folks have built these, and ask what their dimensions turned out to be.
That definitely sounds smarter :-)
Can you tell me what part on the GSG-5 is the actual firearm in the ATF's eyes? Everything is serial numbered, barrel, upper receiver, trigger pack, bolt....
On HKs it is the upper receiver, so I'm guessing it's the same for GSG's.
other than trying to call the atf and get 5 different answers does anyone know the definitive answer to which part is the actual firearm? The upper is two pieces :-S I am going to have to engrave my trust info, city, state and i dont want to get slammed by the ATF on a technicality later. With the barrel, upper, trigger pack, and bolt being serial numbered i really dont want to get this wrong.
It is the part with the serial number.

The right side of the clamshell on the GSG-5.
