 Premature Form 1...

Since I had to wait 7 months for a form 4, I'm thinking of doing something a little different. I am going to do a USC conversion and SBR it. It's going to take me about 3 months to scrounge up all money/parts needed for this. I am considering filling out a form 1 without the serial number and sending it in this week....

That way my form will eventually go into problem status and add about 3 weeks to the total time, but I will save about 2-3 months of wait. Any opinions on this idea?

If you're gonna try and make an end run around the system, its probably not smart to post about it on the internet.

Like my First Sergeant says, "If you're gonna do something stupid, don't take pictures".

I thought it was a smart idea. The ATF is getting their money either way so why would anyone care?

I wouldn't intentionally fo to problem status to try to skirt the system.

Problem status is one thing that actually does slow the system down a bit.

Well judging by the fact that they track your paperwork via serial number, this wouldn't be the smartest idea.

The practical problem with this idea is that you cannot be sure when they will contact you about the missing serial number. When they do, if you do not have a valid one ready, then your problem becomes compounded.

The legal problem, remember, is that you are making a sworn statement by signing that form 1. If the missing serial number were a legit oversight, your statement's integrity remains intact, there's no problem. But if you are gaming the system, you would be signing in violation.

Best to wait until you are ready with a real serial number.
