 1st AR--Do I want a 5.56 or a 300 Blackout?

Going to get my first AR. I decided I want a SBR. A guy at work is trying to convince me to go with the 300 Blackout over the 5.56/.223. I do want to suppress it 6 months or so down the road.
Another person suggested that I should just get a 16" 5.56/.223 AR for my first stick.
There are so many options out there now it is easy to get overwhelmed.

Pros/Cons?

I think 5.56mm is a good caliber for your first AR-15 mainly because the ammo is cheaper and more readily available. But I do like the 300BLK caliber also, especially with subsonic ammo suppressed, just wish the ammo wasn't so expensive. But yeah I would get the 300BLK upper later, like say after you buy a suppressor. And you can use something like the AAC 762-SDN-6 suppressor on both 5.56mm and 300BLK.

This.

If you want to SBR your first one, then do it in 5.56. As soon as the form 1 comes back, buy a .30 cal can. While waiting on the can to be approved, start putting together parts for your 300 upper.

I would say 5.56 as well.

Suppressed .300 Blackout is a lot of fun but since you're not suppressing it yet, I'd say get the 5.56 for the moment

1. Get a quality 16" 5.56 so you can start shooting now. You will never regret having a 16" 5.56 upper.
2. Send off your Form 1 on the lower to make it an SBR.
3. While you wait, plan out your 300 BLK SBR upper. I love my 8" Noveske-barreled upper. Heck, if you're going to go short, go short. :)
4. As soon as you can afford it, buy a multi-caliber suppressor and send off the Form 4.
5. Shoot your 5.56 lots with cheap ammo.
6. When your SBR stamp comes back, build/buy your 300 BLK SBR upper.
7. Buy 300 BLK subsonic every chance you get, or start to reload.
8. Practice smiling for 30 minutes at a time to condition your face muscles.
9. When your can stamp comes back, screw it on your 300 BLK SBR, load up some subsonics, and show everybody your shit eating grin.

Go with the 5.56 for your 1st.

I have one AR, and it's a 10.5" 5.56. I can buy 5.56 ammo at Walmart. If you have one AR, it should be a 5.56 in my opinion. And it should be an SBR because they rock. Shorter, lighter, and when you hang a silencer on the end of it, it's not way out there.

Plus, it fuels your desire for a silencer that much sooner.
