If I buy an AR15 lower from a private individual in state (legal) does it make a difference when i put the SN down on a form 1 for SBR?
Since its not like an FFL where they call it in and all that jazz......will they run it and see that the name is different?
PLEASE HELP :( wanna get this SBR paper work done early this week!
Ethan
There will be no problems.
Since it not on paper why add it just go out and buy one at a gun store and fill out a 4473
thanks guys, good to know! and im not worried about adding it....main reason for buying it private was the price.....going and buying another at the LGS (if they even had any....they dont) would defeat the whole purpose

no SN is given when a FFL calls in on the 4473, all the ATF knows is the it's a handgun, long gun or other firearm (frame, receiver). If the ATF has a firearm and they want to know who the owner was they call the maker (Colt) Colt says we sold it Sports South, Sports south says we sold it to Bob's Gun Shop. ATF calls Bob Gun Shop then Bob has to go through all his paper work, then tells ATF that Mike Jones brought the firearm and then Mike says I sold it at a gun show.
ATF will run the SN to make sure it is a good SN that say Rock River made and that's it, they have a list of of all SN from each maker.
If the firearm wasn't recovered at a crime ATF doesn't care who owned it before you. Maybe if it was reported stolen, but I don't know if the ATF even tracks that unless it from a Store or Fed-x or UPS
