 Changing sights on SOCOM16

Has anybody changed out the sights on the SOCOM16? I don't like the super fat front sight and ghost ring rear. I'd like to go to a standard M1A front and rear. From my research it seems like the only way to do this is to buy the Smith Enterprises gaslock kit, is that correct? I'm trying to keep the cost down on this project since I only paid $500 for the gun and I don't know if I'm going to keep it. Thanks.

Dude, you stole it for that price. If you decide to sell it near that price shoot me a PM

I did steal it after some wheeling and dealing on my end. I was in my local shop where the owner knew me well, a lady walked in and her husband had just passed. She wanted to sell the socom and I was in the right place at the right time. It had a Leupold 10-25 or something like that mounted on it, a nice hunting scope. It looked like a joke with that scope on it. The shop gave her 1300 and turned around and sold it right to me for 1350. I sold the scope for 800. Oh yeah, there was some cheap night vision monocular included. I sold that for 200 on my boating site, so in the end I paid 350 out of pocket for the gun! I spent another 150 on mags, sling, etc. It was one of those deals where you know how many rounds went through the gun because a box of 20 that came with it had 5 left and the gun was mint! I figured if I dont like it I can probably sell it for 1000 no problem.

But I would like to get some decent sights on there before I decide.

The sights were one of the main factors in me getting the Scout. It has a NM front and normal rear. Thats not to say I don't want a SOCOM...almost bought one down in CO, but I told myself I should check out all the local stores before I jump. Local stores had some but were damn expensive. So I went home and looked at Bud's, and they were sold out. Then saw the ad in the EE here from CTD for the M1A's, and said what the heck and checked them out. They had the Scout in Mossy Oak for a little over $1300, so I bought it. Locally the Scouts and SOCOM were going from $1500-$1800

Repainted it and took off the scope mount and handguard, which I replaced with a GI one I found locally.
