Do you need a front sight tool to get a FAL zeroed, or can you use a make shift tool (bullet/nail/etc) like an AR?

Also, I can really only get to an indoor 25 yard range. Where should I be hitting to be close at 50, maybe an inch low? Is 50 yards the proper distance for a battle sight zero on a FAL?

I zeroed mine at 25 M. If i remember correctly 7.62 natos stabilization path hits perfectly at 25 and 125 M. I use either two small screw drivers or two small nails to adjust the front sight.

If you set the Rear sight to 200 and zero at 50yds you will have a 200 meter zero, . The rear sights are set up in meters so it works great.

There is no "battle zero" setting. You're supposed to zero it for 200 metres at that setting (if you're using standard sights), although zeroing is supposed to take place on a 100 metre range, but if I recall it can be done at 25 metres if necessary as well. The para sight is 150 metres and the Holland sight is 250, I believe. I know there is a height above the centre of the target the group should be centred on when aimed at the centre of the target, but I forget exactly what it is. I'm pretty sure it's in the vicinity of 2 inches, but not positive.

The front sight can be adjusted with a punch if necessary (I don't have a FAL front sight tool). What needs to happen is to stick it in one of the holes and push with enough force to depress the fixing plate, whereupon the item you're using is used to rotate the sight in one direction or the other. Each click equates to a certain amount of change in elevation, same with the windage screws for the rear sight, but I don' recall exactly what each click corresponds to. When I did a google search a while back I did find a FAL manual in English (on Scribd, I think) which has everything you need to know including what each click corresponds to and where your rounds should be impacting on the zeroing target.

This is also somewhat dependent on the bbl length.

I moved the front sight with micro thin nose pliers.
