I think I'm gonna "pull the trigger" on one of the SARCO Argentine FAL kits. I live 30 minutes from SARCO, so that'll be easy enough. But I have a lot of questions and fears actually. I'm not going to build it myself.
I'm gonna want a REPUTABLE PROFESSIONAL to build it. Any recommendations?
Next, the receiver. My first thought is send the kit to DSA, buy one of their Type 1 receivers and have them assemble it on the Argie kit. (If they'll do it).
But then I'm hearing a lot of you guys talking about the Coonan Argie receiver. Ok, are they good quality receivers or are they along the lines of the lower tier receivers like Entreprise/Century/Hesse?
I see a lot of complaints about DSA now but they seem to be THE FAL people. My brother has a DSA SA58 made back in the early 90s and its fantastic.
What do I do? All opinons will help.

I recently purchased an Argentine kit from SARCO. I was reluctant to do so mostly because I already had 5 F A Ls and hardly needed another one. But, when Coonan put their receivers on sale it just pushed me over the edge. I am exceedingly happy that I did so. Both the kit and the receiver are of excellent quality and the build was exceptionally easy. The rifle produced is one of the finest that I have ever owned.
The Argentine lower receiver is built a little differently than other metric pattern F A Ls. A standard metric upper will need to be modified in order to work with the Argentine lower. The Coonan Argentine receiver already has these modifications built in so you would not need to pay a smith to modify the receiver. If you buy a DSA receiver, the mods will make your build more expensive than it needs to be.
The DSA built rifles from the 90's have a far better reputation for quality than their most recent products. I have never owned a DSA made rifle or receiver so I cannot attest to this from personal experience. I can state that when I was doing business with DSA for parts that they were always prompt and the product was as advertised. I haven' purchased from DSA in over 5 years though.
Since I build my own, I cannot guide you in your quest to find a builder for your kit. There are several gunsmiths on FALFILES.COM that specialize in building F A Ls and all of those that are currently active members have good reputations.
My counsel is to get the Argentine Coonan receiver along with the SARCO Argentine kit and keep on marching.
Well I'm not a big metric fan but if I wanted a primo one and got one of those Sarco Argie kits I'd seek out an older Century FAL that was built on a real deal Argentine reciever most likely with a very nice British L1A1 kit.
Break down the Century FAL with Brit kit, sell the Brit parts for most of your money back and put your Argie kit on it. One complete real deal Argie rifle in primo condition.
I think you'd actually build it cheaper that way over a US made reciever.
Then again, I prefer the inch pattern rifles.
ETA- I think there are one or two for sale on FALFILES marketplace now. Should be marked Rosario Argentine or something like that. When in doubt, ask a question over there and there a lot of knowledgeable and helpful folks to guide you.
If you are looking for a builder in your area- I'm in Chalfont, near Doylestown.
You are welcome to stop by the shop and have a look at my work. I have 3 finished builds in the rack right now.

Bought a Sarco and I am in the process of doing just this. Was gonna go Coonan but I got an L1A1 Enfield on an Argy receiver instead. Plan to break it down and sell the Brit kit. Problem is I took it to the range a couple times and now I really dig it. And it's a zinger on 200-300 yd steel plates via iron sites. Love the fold down charging handle. No matter what I do I WILL incorporate a FCH into my Sarco Argy build.
Looking for a builder as well. Heard AZEX was great. Heard Moses was great as well (FalFiles) but takes 6+ months to get anything done. Plus I am still waiting for the finish of the wood buttstock I ordered from a guy named Blue Monster from the FAL files.

Best builder I know is Mark Graham. He is a TRUE asshole, but he does the best work I have seen. He is on falfiles.com also.
He also has a manual, and DVD on building them. I used it on the 1st one I built.
Here's a link to his webpage.

ya know for actual use i'm torn on the folding charging handle. As a former infantrynan, eliminating poking projections and things to hang up on your gear is good. Then the flip side is in use, the non folders are faster to cycle the bolt should you need to clear a stoppage or chamber a round. Toss up.,
