Dumbie's Guide to a Cetme Build?
So after seeing the cetme pic thread, I kinda wanna build a Cetme in a PSG-1ish style.
But I know next to nothing about the platform so I figured I'd ask here.
So where do i need to start? Good place to read and learn a little more?
Recommended tools? Tips and Tricks? Basically just Anything an Everything I'll need to know.
Thanks for enduring all the noob questions and any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
(P.S. Where would be a good source for parts and what all is required?)
If you are going to go for a PSG1 stye build the first order of business is finding a barrel. The barrel sets the tone for the build. The problem is that no one is making 25" long .840" diameter barrels with chamber flutes. If you keep your eye out you might find a Lothar Walther in the $800 range for sale. Once you have a barrel, planning the rest of the build is easy.
For those unfamiliar with chamber fluting, inside the chamber of a DRLB rifle thee are grooves to allow gas to flow back under the cartridge to equalize the pressure inside and outside of the case to aid in extraction. Here are chamber molds of a LW barrel before and after chamber fluting:
Unfortunately, these guns do not run without flutes.
If you are more interested in the "ish" part where looks are just kind of important and accuracy is negotiable, Bravo5 sells a barrel slightly heavier and a few inches longer than a standard barrel that they call a "designated marksman" for a couple hundred dollars. You can buy a Magpul stock for the tail end and a fellow on the militaryfirearm site (JDowney) makes and sells PSG1 stye grips that fit on a standard lower grip frame. You can try to locate an MSG1 forearm or just go with an HK wide forearm. Matt Yeamans (turbothis) sells 4 trigger box components that helps with the 7 922r required parts (6 if you leave off the flash hider).
If you want to see the whole build thread on the one in the pics, join weaponsguild and view it here. There are 30 pages of detail with a little BS thrown in for free:

ok. Well the PSG-1 style isn't set in stone just the first that caught my eye.
Definitely still wanna do a Cetme build though.

There are several build tutorials on different sites, some better than others. You are going to need to demil your kit, modify your trigger box, bend a flat (or buy a receiver), press the barrel into the trunnion and set the bolt gap, weld in the cocking tube, and you're just about ready to finish. Read all the tutorials you can find and sk a lot of questions.
Holescreek you need to stop makin such purdy PSG types. Youre makin everyone want one, including me!
My suggestions are if you have some mechanical ability, can read and comprehend everything that is out there, you will be able to build your own. Oddly enough the build tutorial that I gained the most amount of information from was a build that went bad. Guy jumped in both feet first w/o any understanding or knowledge of the rifle. He made a lot of mistakes and posted a ton of pictures. This showed what not to do very well. I wanted to include the link, but I am unable to find it at the moment.
ETA: Found it!
Build gone bad.
Ok, One more question.
What's the differences between a g3 and a cetme build?
g3 mags definitely seem cheaper so leaning toward that.
just couldn't find anywhere that said much about the differences.
Thanks again

G3 is an H&K rifle made in or licensed by HK Germany. The Cetme is a Spanish rifle made long before the G3 and is what the G3 is based on. Cetme kits are cheaper than HK kits by up to several hundreds of dollars most of the time and some but not all of the parts are interchangeable, including magazines.
Here is a lits of interchangeable parts:

I had a hard time not getting sick reading that. What a F'ing idiot
I didn't/couldn't bring myself to read it all the way through. After page 2 I skipped to the end. That said, there are a lot more good tutorials out there to follow than when that thread was written. My tutorials on the weaponsguild forum are broken into sections. Demilling the kit and modifying the trigger pack, fitting the mag catch/new receiver work, pressing the barrel into the trunnion and setting gap, Setting the cocking tube gap. They do not cover all aspects of the build, just those that I felt were a little misunderstood. There are others out there that cover converting the carrier to SA and other individual items.
Holescreeks' are excellent tutorials! I just learn differently I guess. I had went through and read 4 or 5 different tutorials on builds that went right, but when I read that bad build, it really opened me up to what to look for and what NOT to do.
WARNING! Holescreeks tutorials will make you give up your first born for a PSG1 style rifle.

And he makes it look so dang easy.
