Another C93 thought thread
My local dealer can get me a Century C93 for $630 out the door. Now he was very clear that this is the model with the "16.25" fluted 'special weapons' barrel". Now he has to order it in, but can have it next day. So I would be able to lay eyes on it before purchasing it. I am aware of Century's mixed rep, as is my dealer, so he was more than willing to allow the inspection prior to me taking delivery. I am new to HK style rifles, I own several pistols and have loved them, of course they are genuine HK not clones. But what are some of the specific trouble areas for me to look for in this rifle. A little while back iwas going to undertake a G3 build from parts, so I have the HK G3 armorers manual around, how much of that would apply to this rifle, obviously understanding the caliber difference.

It's your money. Do whatever makes you happy. It does not matter what barrel is in it. The issue you will have is who built the gun and if the gun will work correctly after a few hundred rounds. I read a lot of posts where people had to send their guns back and were okay with it, more power to them. If you decide to sell the gun later, it would not fetch as much. A used C93 to me sounds like a repaired lemon. You would be better of buying a parts kit and a flat and send it to a reputable builder and have it done right. I have a friend who works part time at a gun shop and told me the store had a small shipment of C93s. I was able to hand pick one out, none (12) of them impressed me.
FWIW I like my C93. I only have put a few dozen rounds through it, but not so much as 1 malfunction even with steel case stuff. Bolt gap was fine on mine. Granted, I got it at a gunshow, and thus I was able to inspect it. A nice change from their CETMEs is that you can actually zero these properly, as you can move the windage(you still need the HK tool for elevation). While I have heard alot of complaints with the CETMEs and HK91 clones century has done, I haven't heard too many about these. So I say take your feeler gauges and a bore light, and look it over. If it checks out, go for it. If it doesn't look for another one.
Look for the flutes in the barrel ensuring they are cut evenly and deep enough. Next, inspect the welds at the trunion area. You will be looking to see if it has been welded to hold the receiver rails in position. After that, inspect the magwell for play and alingment. Field strip the rifle, and with the receiver open check on the rail to trunion alignment. These seem to be the most common areas that CAI have trouble with other than the bolt gap. Most FFL's have the rifle, 2 mags, and bayonet deal for about $500. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Just got my c-93 on thursday, $530 shipped, with 2 mags and a bayonet. The gun looks good, the bolt gap is good, ran 100 rounds of tulla steel case .223 through it today....with ZERO malfunctions.
I have had mine for about three weeks, $520.00 out the door it has had 780rds of wolf, federal, M855 some silver bear through it and it had a few fte with the first 25rds. its a crap shoot my bolt gap settled to .007 and has stayed there.I guess I got lucky.
I appreciate the links and pointers guys. I will not be purchasing this C93 at least, when I took it down, the bolt mechanism has some pitting and rust on it, a little pitting I can do, but, not rust, and the charging handle had some binding in it about halfway back. I know this is a cheaper rifle compared to the real ones, but, I'm not going to spend $600 on a crappy one. Thank you again for the insights into these rifles.
I was eyeballing a C93 from a local gun shop but after reading up on the horror stories on them, I decided to go with a Vector V93 and very happy with my purchase.Yes it is 2x as much but you get a certain piece of mind knowing it is not a Century build. If you do decide to build their is a guy on hkpro that goes by the handle ghilliebear2000 that everyone says is the bees knees when it comes to building.
