New EE gone?
It's been some time since I've ventured into the EE arena... phobias and all
Wasn't there a push some while back to revamp the EE to make it more user friendly? I know this change took place because I visited it during its rolling out stage. Did it crash and burn?
They did away with it. It didn't go over very well. Good thing about the EE now, is the automated feedback.

And the huge glaring problem is still that people can't have public conversations about items without bumping a thread and getting a time out from the mods.

IM and email are for conversations, not the threads.

Says you. It'd be a much better system to be able to publicly discuss the buying and selling of items instead of wondering what's going on with the item behind the scenes and taking time to find out something you could easily read in the thread. This happens on most other forums like this without much trouble. I'm perplexed to why ARFCOM has still not figured out this system sucks. Instead, the mods here have a hard on for slapping people's peepees
because they post a question or comment that is relevant to the thread
and doesn't hurt a damn thing. Asking and answering questions helps everybody who is looking at the thread and keeps a seller from having to answer 20 emails to say the same thing. You can still police the riff raff comments.
It's a real simple fix. You make the bumping of EE threads only happen when a post by the OP occurs. Bumping with every reply is silly anyway.
The only reason to not allow posts in EE threads is because of bumping. Remove that and you take away a ton of needless work for mods, make transactions quicker and make the whole EE more user friendly.
Just because they want to run it like this doesn't mean it serves the members over another, better method.

Ok. But I am just going by what I see in in the EE rules.
18. Buyers –– STOP the trivial 'mail sent' nonsense. Simply send the seller an e-mail and/or IM. Also, STOP bumping ads with "Hey, free bump for a nice rifle.", "Free bump for a nice guy", "Hey, great rifle. I wish I had the money", "Payment sent", etc. All small talk should be restricted to IM or e-mail. Do not post in an ad unless you are interested in the item(s) for sale. DO NOT POST OFFERS IN ADS-IM or email them only. IM or Email all questions. EXCEPTION: IF YOU WANT TO BUY AN ITEM, YOU MUST POST AN "I'LL TAKE IT" IN THE THREAD IN ORDER TO LEAVE AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK UNDER THE AUTOMATED FEEDBACK SYSTEM.
I do remember the tweaking period and many of the suggestions/concerns. I know the "management" put a lot of effort into getting a new EE running so the process could be more streamlined.
One way that change could be affected is to very slowly change something. A month or two later, something else, integrated slowly to avoid an entire change that (most) people shy away from. Either way, it's a good system.
Thanks for the answers.

The EE is not a discussion forum. Period.
If you have a question, IM or email the seller.
The problem is that members cannot just ask a question, most feel that they need to chit chat. All that does is bump other members off the 1st page.
The EE has a huge ad turn over rate as it is, more than other forums a 1/4 or 1/2 our size. If we allowed everyone to ask questions, it would just become a discussion forum, because other members cannot keep from chiming in.
Is it really that hard to just send a IM or email?
Remember, no one is making anyone use the EE. You are free to go elsewhere if this place is not to your liking.
It works just fine right now as long as people read the rules. I don't need to see a page of people low balling, haggling, asking silly questions. Generally, if it is a pertinent question that is not answered in the 1st post, the seller will go back and edit it in.
People chat all day long in the classified section on a local forum and it's a total nightmare.

That right there is the problem. If members would do that, there would be a lot less of Mods editing ads.

And ultimate proof the system does not work.
The idea I suggested fixes everything you're arguing for. There is no reason to bump ads with every reply.

The problem I see with open discussion in ads (regardless of whether it bumps it or not) is it will seriously increase the amount of asshats stomping/crapping in those ads.
So while it may eliminate the need to police and warn for back to top violations and/or needless bumps the major increase in ad stomping/crapping reports will probably more than make up for it.
I really don't see allowing discussion as a true solution to the problem at hand which is members will not read and follow the rules, fix that little problem and you fix everything that is wrong with the EE.

Uh, no.
Maybe people who fancy themselves adults, should try follow the rules.
The EE works very well when members engage their brains

LO fucking L
And if that happened you wouldn't have a job and we wouldn't need rules.
Gator, they're already policing threads. Not having to spend time locking threads and editing posts for every trivial matter would free up far more time to deal with the occasional ass hat ragging on a price. It wouldn't change decorum rules of the EE. Simply stick to relevant Q&A. No comments.

Most of the problems come from the TX members.
Maybe banning them would help out with the problems.
Seriously though, the EE is fine the way it is. I belong to other boards that allow chit chat in their classifieds and it's nothing but a mess.
A few small modifications over time will help streamline the system.
Biggest problem I see is new members not knowing the rules.
Maybe something that makes them read the rules before they can enter EE.
Also a couple of new buttons like buy it now or offer $x to cut down on welching.
No need to ban Texas, some of us are good folk!

I have asked and asked for that, but no luck.

What about allowing the OP and locking it afterwards? That would force the OP to edit their post to reflect either sale pending or sold pending funds. That would also force ALL questions via IM or email.
Thoughts?

Wouldn't work with the new feedback system since the buyer has to post in the thread in order for both parties to leave feedback.
