Would you take $ xx? Why, yes I would. Ok, never mind. - is this worthy of negative feedback?

I have an ad in the EE selling some 90% silver. Guy sends me an IM (didn't post in ad) to say "Will you take $x for the whole lot, shipped?"

I responded that I would, and included my shipping info. A few hours later, I get this IM:

Against my better judgment and your fairness in price, I am going to back out. Sorry to inconvenience you, but I wanted to let you know ASAP rather than leave you hanging. I assume you have other buyers lined up and ready to make the purchase.

Sincerely,
<slacker user name>

Do I brush this off, or do I need to initiate bad faith action here?

Did he say "I'll Take it?" Did he ruin your chances of someone else buying it? I don't know why everyone here gets so excited about giving negatives for any little reason. I can understand if someone posts in your ad, lets you mark it as SPF, ruins the chance of others buying, then never pays, but just asking in an IM, come on now!

Brush it off. I hate it when a buyer asks for a reduced price then has to think about it or whatever. Now if he said "I'll take it all for $X shipped" and you had agreed then it's for sure a -1 in my book.

I'd brush it off.

It wasn't a discounted offer price - it was all the items plus shipping for a price he offered. I accepted then he backed out. I've got other offers so it's not like I'm left hanging, so that's why I'm asking here without naming names.

IMO and IME, no "deal" was made. Just another tire kicker.

Not saying I agree but "would you" is a question. "I will take it if ..." and "If you will accept $xx, I will take it" are offers.

This case is slightly different since the followup message appears to indicate he thought he was making an offer but I don't believe it to be worth a welch.

Just add the name to your never respond to ever again list.

What was his name? If you aren't going to put him up for a negative might as well let us know his username.

Would you take $$$ is different than "will" you take $$$.

It would be a deal if you accepted prior to his welching.

This is his exact statement:

Will you sell all of them together for $xxx shipped and insured to Springfield, MO?

I am not sure if posting the guys name is something I want to do. I appear to have other buyers ready to step up. I am simply unsure, which is why I am posting to get opinions.

I did accept his offer, and provided payment info. Then I got the reply that he was backing out of the deal.

No deal was made. He asked a question and did not put an "I'll take it" or similar response. I would just brush it off and sell to the other potential buyers.

"Against my better judgment and your fairness in price, I am going to back out..."

The buyer thought that a deal was made by this comment alone. He's not backing out of negotiations, he's backing out of the deal.

He made an offer . You accepted and replied. He did not seal the deal instead he wussed out but did not welch. Take the high road and let it slide.

As Brother said, "Take the high road...", and mark the guys name down as someone you will not do business with in the future.

I need to see the Commo's but it looks like a welch to me

I think people are too quick to turn to negative feedback... I wouldn't zing a buyer for this but likewise I am very careful about anything I send a seller so I don't get myself in this situation. EE has become a shark tank of people looking to bloody someone over some really silly reasons IMHO.

On the contrary, welching is at an epidemic rate in the EE. Internet trading and selling requires the highest honor between parties and your word is your bond. Welching if it is a welch does not fit that definition.
