 Kinsman Woods Walk silhouette shoot

We just had our first woods walk silhouette shoot. It was wet..... really wet.......

I am helping run it this year. We set up 30 steel silhouette targets around a wooded course. Each station has between 1 and 3 targets. You must be touching the stake with your foot when each shot is taken. No slings, sticks, rests or any other type of support. All shots are off hand standing.

We have 4 divisions. Scoped rifle; open sight rifle; scoped pistol; open sight pistol. I shoot all 4 divisions each shoot. First time through for each counts for score. Any addition times is just for fun. $5 per trip around the course.

The course is usually a little wet, but today was unbelievable. We had to reroute the path since there were spots where the trail had 12" of water over it! No one shot without high boots since there was 8" of water over parts of the trail we could not bypass. One of the target stakes that was dry yesterday had 4" of running water over it today.

We normally get 30 to 50 shooters at this shoot. We got 8 today.....it was a blast! It really wasn't raining the first 3 times I shot the course. The last two times through I shot open sighted pistol and scoped pistol a 2nd time and it was pouring! My friend and I were out there shooting and laughing at ourselves for enjoying it so much!

In all I shot the course 5 times. Once for each firearm and I shot scoped pistol twice. My muscles are so tired it's not funny and it's only 150 rounds total. There was a lot of straining to hold steady.

If anyone would like information on this shoot just IM me your email address and I can send you a pdf with the info. We will have at least 5 more shoots for sure this year.

One detail I forgot in the OP is the distance to the targets.

The closest is 10 yds and the furthest is 65 yds. Most of the targets are in the 20 to 30 yd range.

I find that sighting in for 40 yds is just about perfect. We put a decent sized ground hog at 65 yds so the drop is not such a big deal. Once the field gets tougher I have a special target to put out there that makes the elevation much more critical......

Most of the targets are small enough to be challenging at 25 yds with a pistol. When they are out further they are down right tough.

I think I am going to try to make it to the June one. It sounds like some inexpensive fun.

The second shoot was today. It went great and the weather was perfect. We didn't get a lot of shooters, but much better than the last shoot that was very rainy. Everyone who shot had a great time.

The course is very challenging this year. I shot 26 out of 30 today and it was the top score. Gives you an idea of the level of difficulty. I am going to put up a couple more easier targets next time just to help the less skilled shooters get a few more hits. It will still be tough.

Heading out soon for the third shoot of the year. Weather is perfect. Bring insect repellent!

I made the first target a little easier this shoot. Way too many folks getting their first miss on the first target. All of the close in targets are pretty small so no super easy ones, but we should see plenty of good scores today.

Its fun to plan things out and to leave just the right amount of foliage to make the shots busier and more difficult.

Hope to see some of you there!

Heading out soon to our 4th shoot of the year. 80% chance of rain all day. Will that stop us? No. It just makes it more fun!

Stop out if you want to have some fun with good folks.

Someone is smiling on us. The clouds opened up and the sun came out. Looks beautiful. Radar looks good too.

Lots of folks at the shoot today. It's looking to be the best shoot yet. I'm stuck behind the counter until my relief arrives so I can shoot my rounds. :-)

One guy shot 27 out of 30 with a S &W 41 scoped. I am going to have to be on my game and I can only shoot one handed right now.

yep! last shoot of the year. It may be a little wet, but I can't wait. I will be shooting all 4 divisions for the first time since I broke my arm in July.

I'll be behind the counter most of the day.

No rain so far.

I shot 19 out of 30 with my scoped ruger mk2. Not very good, but a start. Someone will beat that for sure.

We had over 40 trips around the course yesterday. The best shoot of the year!

I am considering expanding to 40 targets next year and extending the hours till 4pm to attract more after church folks.

I had a blast doing this shoot. Can't wait till next April.

just a sugestion.

when you lay out the coarse do it in increments of 10. some stations had 9, 10, 11. when you go up to shoot someone is fumbling around trying to get that 1 bullet in because you dont have a 11 round mag.

see it a couple of times and did it a couple times myself. too busy talking and not paying attention, lol.
