Who's got a Florida out of state CCW permit
Anybody living in Ohio have this CCW? Am working in WV and local shop has CCW classes. Aparently Florida has ability to get CCW (out of state) permit and has resiprosity (sp?) with more states than the Ohio permit. Renew regs are less than Ohio as well.
Any thoughts?
Jeffrey
Florida (out of state) CWL works just fine in Ohio, and no warning screen will pop up if you are pulled over in Ohio like will happen with an Ohio CHL. Florida licenses are easy to get, and require only proof of some kind of firearms training (no specific hour requirement), and fingerprint cards for their background check. You can get the forms needed on the FL web site. Florida has reciprocity with lots of states. There are a couple (like MI) that won't work unless you are a FL resident. But if drive to FL, like I do, a FL CHL will work all the way down except SC (where you can carry in your glove box without a license).
I'm sure some folks here will tell you to get an Ohio CHL because it supports the Ohio CHL system. This is true, but you need to weigh the benefits/drawbacks for yourself.
I have a FL non-res in addition to my Ohio CHL. It was really easy to fill out the forms and send off everything you need. Had it back pretty soon as well.
I had one until late last year when it expired. Never had a problem. Reciprocity's good and didn't get a second glance when I presented it at a traffic stop.
Last time I checked West Virgina didn't recognize Florida non-resident permits.
ETA: WV appears to have changed the law again.
get both

IN RED- you sure? What about GA, I thought they were a no go. Did this change? We have resip with them now??????
there are some good reasons to get the OH CHL if you can (i assume you "live" in OH)
1) w/ the in-state OH CHL, you aren't restricted by the federal "safe skrools act", or whatever that fed law is that criminalizes you if you carry w/in 1000 ft of a "skrool zone"... w/ the OH CHL, you get excempted from the 1000ft buffer, and you can actually carry onto skrool property if you are picking up or dropping off a child. *** Note: i paraphrased here, so you should look up the code to see exactly what you "can" and "can't" do when it comes to this ***
2) yes, it helps the local gun rights scene, which is very important!

Yes, Florida and Georgia have reciprocity. (Ohio and Georgia do not).
I lived in OH before there was a CCW but when I moved to WV I got one for WV and then a FL non-resident so I could carry in PA and OH

Then I discovered PA only recognized the FL IF you were a FL resident and not a non-resident

Of course 2 months later they sign the recip agreement. I only posted this so you would know to check the states actual law for the non-resident permits. I actually just got my FL renewal packet and don't know if I'm renewing or not.
