Cabela's coming to Polaris
Story Here
About time.
Not that I am a huge Cabela's shopper now anyways, but Gander is semi delusion with their pricing, so I welcome any and all stores that bring more big boy toys to the area.
Niiiiice!

Shit, now we will have to pay sales tax on stuff from the catalog.

Might be nice for a selection of reloading stuff.

No shipping charges if you can pick it up in the store, but if you don't live close to the store it does suck.
Well I havent bought powder there before, but I looked the prices and it is still cheaper to pay hazmat from wideners or powder valley.
That is no fun. I'll still like having it around.
nice! only 15 miles from my house - but traffic there is already horrible.
glad it's not at easton, keeps all the dirty hill people up north

Sweet another place to buy reloading stuff !
cool, but they should have put it up at 36/37 & 71
Good news.

I won't need to drive to West Virginia after the new store is built. It is fun to go in and look around at everything. I take the Gemini exit and not the Polaris exit which avoids almost all of the heavy traffic when I visit this area.

Thats what i was thinking...........
Cool but its still about the same amount of time to get to either for me.

I recall hearing some years ago that they were looking at the Medina/Brunswick area, but nothing came of it.
I don't get to Columbus very often, but this will give me someplace to visit when passing through
Awesome, now the boys and I will have some place to go while the wife and daughter are doing their fancy, schmancy shopping...

yeah, items will get taxed. and if I go to the store I will buy more than I need.

iirc polaris area is 7.25% sales tax

yeah I noticed that crap a while back, so if you order online will they charge you ohio sales tax or the polaris tax?!
well this is a receipt from polaris so...

Sweet. I don't order much from the website anyway.

Crap, for me this will be about the same travel time as getting to Dundee, MI but now my online orders will cost more.
Glad to see their business is doing well though...

Delaware County was hoping Cabelas would pick that location. That is why they built that big addition to Wilson Road, hoping it would spur development in that area. This would've been nice as it's about 5 minutes from home. (this I heard from an engineer in Del. Co.)
This has been in development for at least 4 years. My wife used to work at the Starbucks at 36/37. She said one morning a pair of engineers from Cabellas came through the drive through.
But I can't wait for when the time comes I can drop the wife off at Costco and the boy and I can go to Cabelas!
Sales tax at Polaris depends on location I believe..... Part of the area is in Columbus, part of it is in Westerville and it's ALL in Delaware County. I believe Orange township has a higher tax rate too. It's a mess and is confusing as all get out.

Fine with me, cheaper than Cuyahoga County
The Columbus store will be 80,000 sq. ft. Dundee store is 225,000 sq. ft. Oh well. Glad to see the addition.

Agreed. Polaris is a parking lot already, hate driving in and out of there.
This is probably the lot where the store will be based on the newspaper article.

yeah, I was looking at that yesterday. It's not near the size lot of the Dundee and Wheeling stores.

That'll suck if we get a mini-version. That'll kill the possibility of a good reloading section.

apparently it is a mini version. The Wheeling store is 175,000sqft, the Dundee store is 225,000sqft, Polaris will be 80,000sqft

Feh. I'll still go to Wheeling then. We have a bunch of the "half-assed" stores in Heath, which inevitably end up being a waste to shop at. Whatever it is you're looking for isn't there, so you end up doing two trips or shopping online anyway.

This.
I'll be glad to have a Cabela's close by to go visit, but that's awfully small. Google says the average Super Walmart is 186,000 square feet.
I'm not sure how big Bass Pro or Gander Mountain are, but Cabela's has more stuff at least.
It looks like Cabela's is moving towards more smaller stores. Their store in Springfield, OR is 58,000sqf. I live close enough that even if they don't have something in stock I can still do the site to store shipping so I'll take it.
And Cabelas stock is rated a Strong Buy over at BarCharts.
BarCharts
With the reduced floorspace, that will no doubt mean less guns/ammo/reloading stuff. That's really the only reason I am excited to have a Cabelas close - everything else they sell I can easily just order online.
Hope I'm wrong about that, but I doubt it.

Is it cheaper than Cuyahoga? Yes, but is it cheaper than the 0% that we are paying to order from their catalog or online? No.
I'm currently sitting in the Costco at Gemini parking lot. The lot you have circled has a big "AVAILABLE" sign sitting on it. The lot across the road as a bunch of new "NO TRESPASSING" signs. My guess is it'll over there. Better access from 71 and Polaris Pkwy.

I guess it depends on how much room the dedicate to display, but you're probably right.
If they don't build a giant mountain in the middle of the store with a bunch of mounted animals on it and a trout stream leading away from it there could be some more room.
How big is the average Gander Mountain?
eta
The closest Gander to me is 66,843 sq ft, so we'll see.

I'm guessing they are moving away from doing the mountain thing. They look cool, but they take up a lot of space that could be otherwise use to generate revenue. The Springfield, OR store doesn't have one and it is 58,000 square feet.
It will be interesting to see what the shooting and reloading department looks like. I got a new shooting catalog a couple days ago and they keep adding more and more gun stuff. They are carrying a limited amount of magpul stuff that they never used to.
Damn. I guess there goes the one they had originally planned in Brunswick a few years ago before the economy tanked.

That would have been a hell of a lot closer to me.
About the same distance for me to Wheeling, or Columbus. I don't think I'll bother with an 80K Sq/ft Cabela's. FWIW, shopping Cabela's on line is much better anyway.
I am excited about it not only for the shooting stuff but fishing as well.
Do they have any other 80000 sq ft stores ? What are they like ? I coukd see them leaving out things that would not be big sellers in Columbus, which a pretty much flat and not fast rivers, etc. I live close by so I will still stop in. Heres a silly photo from the Dundee store.

The Fin put a store in on Bagley Rd.
I would prefer it go to Polaris. Having it at 36/37 Would make my trip across the freeway to work a pain in the A$$!!
