Yep there are not going to issue ammo this year for the Vintage 1903 and Garand matches this year.. No explination from them.. and no drop in reg fee.. still $40.00 but hey you still get the T shirt...
O well it's not about the ammo it's about the shoot, tons of fun

I thought the point of the issued ammo initially was to have a more even playing field. No match or handloaded ammo. Service ammo out of a service rifle.

That is what I always understood too. They can keep the T-shirt. Something doesn't seem right. What is the fee going for then?
ETA From CMP Deputy Chief Operating Officer Mark Johnson on the CMP Forums on 11/09/2011:
Just some numbers for everyone to look at... Projected cost for the upcoming Eastern Games $114,500.00 including $23,000.00 in ammo purchased by CMP for issue. Subtract out the ammo purchase and CMP cost come to $91,500.00 (t-shirts, medals, food, event food, porta pots, range rental, range supplies, range fees, trucking, event labor, travel, lodging, etc.). Using the number of 300 shooters per day for four days of events we come up with $76.25 cost number per shooter. The proposed $50.00 per shooter match fee will yield a cost to CMP of -$26.25 per shooter to put on the event. In the past it cost CMP an estimated -$45.42 per shooter when CMP provided Hornady Match ammunition at no cost to the shooter. We don't expect the matches to ever not be in the "red" we just have to work at the events being less in the "red". We have to make our funding, provided by our rifle sales - you the customer, last forever. The sales side of the house will not continue forever...
