Metal detectors on Verde Canyon Railroad?
Do they have metal detectors?
No they do not. It is very low key and they do no screening at all.
I went about 5 years ago and carried.....i doubt its changed
Not when I went last year. Just hop on the train.
How is the train ride? I have always wanted to do it.
They had signs but no security. Fun time, beautiful views. I saw some great camping and fishing sites, I'd like to find out how to get back there.
Maybe someone knows the answer to this... Does a establishment have to provide you with easily accesible lock box, safe, etc to enforce their no carry rules or is it private property and they can tell you what they want? Up in Payson the DMV has installed lock boxes by the enterance which is nice if you need it I guess. Of course I know you can't carry places like that(DMV, P.O., Govt' type places) but the others are a gray area for me. Example - Bar that serves food and you have your permit or whatever but they have that sign up. Do you have to abide if they don't offer secure storage for your gun or can you ignore it?
Crap. Double tap!

I think only state govt. buildings have storage for your firearm. Private businesses don't have to provide anything.

You don't have to abide. Lockers have nothing to do with it though. A private business can't put up a legally binding sign. That is like saying a private business can put up a sign that says "if you are wearing a blue shirt you are breaking the law" sign.
Kinda' a gray area till someone sets a precedence I guess. Not that I support those who don't support us!

Now that makes sense I guess. Thanks. Didn't mean to jack the thread!

That's ok. If you knowingly walk past a "No weapons" sign while carrying on private property you are trespassing. Problem is, a sign is insufficient notification so until someone actually tells you that you can't have a gun, you aren't trespassing and they can't notify you if they don't know about it.
I think bars and restaurants that serve alcohol for consumption fall under a different statute when it comes to which law you're breaking if you ignore the sign. Not sure, though.
There is a new state pre-emption law in senate committee right now that would require state buildings to follow the same rules as city and county buildings, for the most part. Basically we get to carry guns in more places and they can only keep us out if they have metal detectors and armed guards or cops.
Private property, of course, has the right to decide whether they wish to allow weapons. That is as it should be. If they want to post a sign saying "No red shoes," that's their business. I believe we should have a state law that says by posting no weapons signs a property owner assumes financial responsibility for any crime that may happen to his or her patrons and that not having such signs absolves the property owner of such responsibility. I think a lot of places have those signs because they think it reduces their liability. If we had a statute making it clear that the opposite was true it wouldn't trod on property owner's rights but would still mean way less "no guns" signs.

It's a good time, We sprung for the first class, which has much comfier seats and they include food. There were a ton of Eagles on the trip, and it is a really pretty ride. I want to do it again in October when they do the ales on rails octoberfest.

I hadn't heard of that. That sounds awesome.
We paid for 1st class too and it was nice, though we spent most of our time on the open air car. Saw two bald eagles but aside from a couple buzzards and crows we saw no other wildlife. Cucumber margaritas were very refreshing. definitely worth doing.
I went there last year! The train journey was very peaceful. I would say that a relaxing day in the canyon from the comfort of a first class train, the outdoor viewing platform is really awesome where most people stayed.

It was very nice. I was originally asking whether anyone would check to see if I were carrying. No one does. Technically you are not allowed to carry because of stupid signs. I pay exactly as much attention to those signs as a bad guy would.
