A friend is offering me a place to stay until I can find something of my own. Anybody hiring low voltage specialists?

Why would you be moving to another city with hopes of finding a job vs finding a job and moving to another city?

What type of experience in low voltage work... ?

Basically, because I don't have much of a choice. The house I'm living in is being sold. It closes at the end of May. I hate living in Madison, I hate my job, and my best friend offered me a place to stay, so I'm taking it. I've got enough money squirreled away where I can probably make it for a year if I live very frugally. Which is what I do now. And I also have 60 days or so to find myself a job before I move. So throw me a frickin' bone here people [/Dr. Evil voice]

Right now I install 2 way communications and emergency lighting in emergency and service vehicles. Most of my experience, however, is in the pro audio world, which is massive amounts of structured wiring that needs to be portable (I'm a guy who set up and ran sound systems all over the Midwest), and permanent installation of pro audio gear in houses of worship, corporate boardrooms, bars, houses, recording studios, etc., etc. Basically, any place that needs amplified sound or a paging system. I was also a level C manager for not quite 8 years at a 1200 seat performance venue in Elgin IL.

I forgot you lived in the Madison area. That almost makes Detroit look palatable. Almost.

15-20 years ago, this was a good city to live in. Now? Way too many rude, arrogant people with massive senses of entitlement. It's like I'm living in Chicago all over again, and I hate that city with a passion. I actually prefer Detroit to Shitcago.

Admit it. Half of your neighbors would GTFO if not for the constant smell of meat coming from your back yard.

Keep up those property values!!

Because of the phrase "Dane County Judge" which we have heard all to often lately, I consider "Dane County" an equivalent to swear words.

Who am I kidding, if I could sell this over-priced house I'd be out of Madison in a heartbeat. I love having everything available that Madison has to offer, but the taxes suck, the liberals suck even more, and any time I do start the smoker, EVERYONE wants to know what I'm cooking. Hard to cook for just my family some days.

Low voltage made me think of LED. Add wiring and I think of aircraft LED lighting and wiring harnesses. Maybe look at EMTEQ in New Berlin.

Put your house up for rent, then go rent a house in an area you think you may like to live and move forward.

We did exactly that. Granted we are very mobile and past the point of caring if we live in a good school district so we are very flexible. I am not saying it is ideal but it is what we had to do to take advantage of opportunities presented to us. We had also hoped the new tenant might find a way to burn the house down but clearly they are too F'n stupid to even manage to do that right. All they did was burn up the dryer.

In the mean time we enjoy renting, plan to move again soon and are out looking at rural land and homes as there are deals to be had in the next few years. People have to sell their over priced homes, just likes ours and yours!

Can't help with any leads, I'm not in that area.

As for the move, I say Go for it. IMO, life's too short to live somewhere you fucking hate. Been there. I packed up the wife, two kids, 3 dogs, and left Shitcago for the northwoods, 21 years ago. Neither of us had jobs up here. What we did have was enough equity to buy a nice house up here for cash... and had $40k left to live on with no mortgage/rent to worry about. I had a skill in high demand, all the needed equipment, and started my own business from scratch. My wife had 14 yrs banking experience, and found a job within days of looking. She had 3 offers after 3 interviews. Neither of us has any regrets, and have never been out of work. It's scary... but not as scary as staying in a shithole for the rest of your life. After moving, I had nightmares that I had to move back. THAT was scary.

I will have to say welcome to the Fox Cities, Its better than living in the socialist controlled Madistan.

I live in the Town of Menasha, Its a nice area, about 5 minutes out of Appleton. Everyone keeps their political opinions to themselves. The only gripe that I have is these two red headed shitheads that live down the street from me. They remind me of Walker and Texas Ranger from Talladega Nights.

But other than that Its a great place to live not the liberal infested Madison.

Look at Pierce Manufacturing and Oshkosh Truck. Both hire on a semi regular basis and the pay is decent (this is 2nd hand info from my little brother).

Hell yeah! Thank you buddy.

I've gotten a few resumes out. If I still haven't heard anything by Friday, Monday I'm going to start calling those who I've sent out to. I've got less than 45 days until I have to find a new place to live. I really don't want to have to find a month to month for a little while to just move again. That would suck.

Resume away!!!!

Might want to poke at Martin Security - they operate from Oshkosh to Green Bay, and if I remember right, they have an office in Appleton as well.

Really, really well. Just need to pass a criminal background check (no sweat) and pee in a cup (again, no sweat). I should be up in the area around the end of May, beginning of June.

Thank you everybody for the help and suggestions. Now I need to find a place to live.
