I just got word that the BATFE exemption for permits issued before July 1st, 2011 was NOT granted. NVSCA is still looking into allowing early renewals in the near future.

We must respect their authoritah!

The NSCA argument was surprisingly well stated, but ATF will insist on the letter of their prior determination, no matter what arguments are made.

This state has some fucked policies on this stuff

Does this mean I get the money back that I was charged to do my background check, considering it was never done in the first place (according to the ATF at least).

Has anyone called the Washoe County Sheriff's office to see if they will do early renewals now?

Where can I find contact emails for the sheriff?

I tried the NVSCA form and it went to Frank Adams who is no long affiliated with them?

Who are the logical people to complain about us not using the federal system? We need to make some serious noise here

The state system is a money maker for DPS. Good luck trying to get them to change that. Your best bet would be a legislative approach.

DPS and NSCA are not going to voluntarily strangle their golden goose.
It will take action at the state legislature to force any change, be prepared to offer a solution to the "Funding Shortfall" that will be claimed if DPS- NICS is abandoned.

I am told that the DPS-NICS is now funding the salaries of our NHP.

I wonder if there is any legal way to get them to either A Switch to the fed system or B make the sheriffs re do background checks on all of us that paid for them and give us new permits with current issue dates and the same expiration date,

Should have always been the Fed. system, but the NSCA likes the power and MONEY this system provides their members.
Now the state legislature has also become dependent on the $35.00 fee, reportedly used to fund NHP salaries.

To rid ourselves of it, we will have to find another way to fund NHP and whatever else the current fee pays for.

That should not be our problem. I know it is, just should not be

So...is Clark County going to follow and allow early renewals if Washoe is? It should be uniform statewide right? I guess there's a lot of "shoulds" in this whole issue...

A month ago, Clark County said NO to early renewal. I was hoping for this exemption to happen...but now that it isn't going to...

Just got fingerprinted and submitted for my early renewal at Washoe County Sheriff Dept. They said it will be 90-120 days for the new CCW to get to me!

HOORAY!

The big advantages are that I will be able to purchase firearms after 5:45 PM and not pay that stupid $25 each time!

This whole debacle could have been avoided from the beginning.

Thanks again, Bernie.

If the state quit extorting us everybody would be happy whether or not we had a exemption

Considering the intial $15 fee was only until the cost of the equipment was covered then the background checks would be free, and that the fee has not gone away but instead increased to $25, would it be possible for some sort of suit, class-action or otherwise, to be brought forward? Perhaps the legal beagles could chime in on that.

Was that written in a law or charter?? Something in print that shows intent might at least give us half a leg to stand on.

The more I think about the whole situation the more it upsets me. I was glad to hear that Washoe will allow early renewals but the whole deal is bullshit

The more I think about it, it doesn't upset me... it angers me.

I have been following this SHIT from the beginning (and I've been around for a minute).

First it was left up to the Nevada State Legislature. Then it went from the Legislature to the NVSCA. THEN it went back to the Legislature.

Bernie Anderson and his minions dropped (ignored) the ball intentionally in two different Legislative sessions when the issue came up.

Although I don't have time to look up the Legislative History right now, perhaps Jim Mayhugh (or someone else) can look it up/comment and post it.

Be Safe.

For the early renewal you have to take the renewal course (4 hours instead of 8 hours) and pay the $65 for the renewal & fingerprints. It is the same as if you were to renew when your permit was within 120 days of expiring.

The next (5 year) expiration is now by law from the date issued, not the nearest birthday.
