Needing some new tires for my Pontiac Vibe. I am a member of Costo, but just wondering if there is anything better in the North Las Vegas/Las /Vegas area. Thanks in advance. Tim

Went to a Big O on a Thrusday to get four new tires, estimate came to $896.00. Said the hell with it and would wait awhile.

Was watching TV on Friday night an a Big O ad said something about a super tire sale, on Saturday, but sale was only till 10 AM on certain tires and a later time for other tires.

Showed up at 7:30 AM. First one in the door and out by 9 AM with the same four tires for $425.00. Lucky me.

I am also a Costco member and they did have those tires in stock but not on sale.

So check aroung and see who has a tire sale going on.

Good luck,
Steve

Best deal I found was Big O. Got a quote for my Chevy Truck at nearly $1,000 said screw that I'd wait for a sale... Wife saw a buy one get one free deal about a week later, out the door 4 new mounted balalnced old ones discarded and all for $485... And they had to go 2 sizes bigger to accommodate me...AHHHHHH!

Buy only during super sales events for whatever.

Big 0 sucks, I've had some of the worst customer service in my life there.

Discount Tire FTW.

I went to 'discounttires.com' and got their quote, printed it out. Add in the shipping cost, and Discount Tire (notice that the URL is NOT the same company) price matched for me.

+1

ETA:

Looking at the posts above and below, Discount as a business seems to want to do it right. My take on Big O is that they are inconsistent and what you get depends a lot on the local management. If you get a good one, I'd have no trouble saying stick with them, but not because they are Big O. Here in Reno I called one about doing my brakes while I was physically unable to do my own and called for a quote. I made sure they knew what they were quoting on. When I arrived, the price tripled. I had the dealer do it for less.

Firestone here in Reno was a nightmare of incompetence and took weeks to resolve, fortunately without permanent damage to my truck.

I recommend Discount or Stones Tire in Truckee, they both give outstanding service.

I respectfully disagree...

When I bought my Ford Excursion in 2002, I had a lot of problems with the OEM Goodyear tires' tread separating at highway speed. The local Ford dealership would replace the tire under warranty with the same tire. After five such incidents, Ford decided that they weren't going to replace anymore tires without charging me. I went to Big O, and had them all replaced with Big O brand tires. They worked better, but I still had intermittent tread separation issues.

About 18 months later I was there having one of the tires that had had a tread separation replaced under warranty, and was talking to the manager. After looking at the tires on my truck, he took me aside and told me that when the previous manager replaced the tires, he used the same load rating as the OEM Goodyears. Turns out that with my diesel, 4WD truck, that load rating was insufficient, and was probably the cause for the failures at highway speeds. He replaced all four tires with the proper load rated tires, which were substantially more expensive, AT NO CHARGE. I purchased the spare myself. I've had no further problems.

I've been using this Big O for the last 20 or so years, and will continue to do so.

The really long review on the top is mine if you care to read. This is the local one but after sharing my story with the local 4x4 forum here I received many complaints similar to mine from multiple stores.

Perhaps your Big O isn't as bad but they certainly won't have better prices than Discount. FWIW I've grown up working on vehicles, and I'm in school studying diesel mechanics. I do know a thing or two about tires and alignment.

Kinda funny as well is the OP has a pontiac vibe, same car my friend (here in Reno) took to a Big O across town for an oil change. They forgot to remove the old oil filter gasket and she lost the majority of her oil leaving the place. Fortunately they gave her a written document stating they'd replace the engine in so many miles if it had issues.

Edit: I also called their corporate CS who insisted I needed to speak with the manager again. I insisted right back I wanted nothing more to do with the guy. They basically ignored me after that.

As far as replacing your tires with a higher load rating... may have been a good guy or he may have realized putting too low of a load rating like they had, with several tire failures, was potentially a law suit waiting to happen.

You have a truck as heavy as a 1 ton HD pickup. Definitely ought to run E rated tires.

FWIW, my dad owned a garage and auto body shop, and I spent most of my younger years working on engine, frame and body, but that point, and yours, is moot in a discussion about tires. I will admit I've never been to Discount Tires, but I've also never been a price-is-everything type either. I'm willing to pay a little more if I get decent service, and a good product, which I have always gotten at this particular shop. YMMV.

My point is hardly moot. Alignment and tires are a big focus in diesel applications, mainly as they cost so much. As well in the 4x4 community. I've done a lot with my alignment to get my tires to stuff, I know a lot about alignment, and I know a lot about tires. I won't be taken advantage of because I don't have my own alignment rack.

My review may not be based solely on tires at Big O but it does reflect poorly upon their entire business and I'd never do business with Big O again.

Discount (also known as America's tires) has done right by me many times at different locations. You can usually talk them down on price a bit as well, and they're competitively priced to begin with.

I have no stake here, I'm just an unsatisfied and a satisfied customer.

I ended up finding one guy at Les Schwab that I will go to for my alignments now. He actually had the brains to sit there and listen to what I was trying to do. He ended up getting a 20$ tip he did such a damn fine job.

Since the previous manager had used tires that were the same load rating as the OEM tires, it would have been problematic to show any fault on his part in a lawsuit. As I recall, tread separation was a widespread problem on all Ford Excursions and Expeditions back then.

I've used big O and discount. I prefer Discount.

Big O broke off my TMPS sensor and didn't replace it. There was a basic lack of professionalism at the store I visited. Their shop was filthy.

Discount tire is clean, the guys appear to have good shop etiquette, and I generally feel better about them touching my equipment. The price match thing is swell.

I also got a great price on tires at 4wheel parts on decatur. Couldn't hurt to give them a ring.

As always, YMMV

I guess I won't talk about how Discount forgot to torque my left front rim on my P/U and it almost fell off leaving work And to top it off, they kept my lug key....but that was my fault for not checking to see if they put it back

Several years ago I was using my 4runner for work. Had a flat tire which I replaced with the spare. Got to the job site only to find out I had 2 slow leaks on other tires (must have found some screws). Limped it to discount. Found out the previous owner had bought the tires from discount. They gave me 4 new tires for the price of 3 & renewed the extended coverage on all 4 free of charge. Normally they don't honor change of ownership, but this manager helped me out. (Vegas location, forget which one)

Last December I bought truck and car tires for my vehicles. They matched internet prices & did the install for free. I paid for the extended coverage on all tires.

A few months ago I wanted to get my rims powder coated...

As a courtesy they removed the tires from the rims. I had the rims coated & brought them back. They remounted them with extra care to avoid damage. Didn't charge me a cent. Good to go from my experience.

Very happy with the Lake Mead location (near lake mead and 215). Came highly recommended by crapshoot, glad i went there.

Discount tire will sell you tires. Then send you down the street to big o, or tire works / Goodyear to get an alignment.

Yes, Discount doesn't do alignments. Big O charges an excessive amount for an alignment.

I personally go to Les Schwab for alignments now, as I found a guy who does a great job, and they're a pretty decent price.

Sitting at Discount tire on Craig road right now. All the people that work here have treated me great so far.
