Gun Stores Marengo, IL
Was traveling through Marengo and found 2 gun stores. Marengo Coin which had rude people working there, but a somewhat good selection, and Dale's Guns which was a bit smaller, had a better collection what seemed like more guns it was wall to wall there, and the staff was great. Without telling a life story bought 2 Aero Precision lowers for 79 dollars a piece from Dale's Guns. I wouldn't bother going back to Marengo Coin and Gun. Anyone else been to Marengo Coin and Gun or Dale's Guns? Was wondering if they were just having a bad day at Marengo Coin and Gun. Prices were about the same at both so no difference there.
Haven't been to Marengo Coin and Gun. But Dale's Guns I have been to. Its a long trip to go there for me. (Willowbrook) But I know one of the part Owners (Used to work with him). But I still wanted to go there to to see what they had. I haven't been there in a while I'm sure they have a lot more then when I was there last.
I have been too both for the first time in the last 2 months. I went to the gun and coin place which had a gun I was looking for at a decent price. I bought it. The vibe was really weird like uninterested in there customers. I chalked it up to maybe the end of a busy day. I paid for
my gun in full. When i went to pick it up i have had more interaction at McDonalds drive through. I said I am here to pick up. They checked the receipt went and grabbed the weapon and set it down and went there ya go and turned their back on me to go on doing something
else. Just a bit odd I agree. A month later I got the 1911 bug and went to Dales for the first time. They had a good selection and everyone was very personable. Had some good conversations at the point of purchase and point of pick up. I would for sure go back to Dales.
Now granted I dont need anyone to hold my hand or be all over me for sales but a bit of attention would go a long way. Leaving Dales I felt good about supporting the LGS, I didnt really have the same feeling about the gun and coin shop.
Did they have a decent stock of the Aero Precision Lowers?
They had 3 bought 2. Asked if he can get more as I have some friends think about building getting AR fever and he said yes. Would call ahead Dale seems like nice a guy and real helpful along with another guy in there.
Just got into guns. I have been to both Dales and Marengo guns, as well as many others in the last 6 months. I found both to be very knowledgable and helpful. More so than most. Marengo guns is a lot larger and has a lot more selection. The prices are about the same with Marengo guns being a little cheaper. I found Dales people to be very nice but ultimately the other place had what I wanted in stock and a little cheaper. The owner even came over to me and thanked me for the purchase. Just my 2 cents.
Drove by there on Friday, but was headed to Belvedere on a time crunch, so couldn't stop in.

I posted about these guys a few months ago. I live in Marengo, and have visited both shops a few times. Joe at Marengo Coin & Gun is a great guy, and his transfer fees are only $10. Woohoo! He has a great selection of used guns for good prices. Even his new gun pricing is close to what you find on the web. Both shops are great, and Dale seems to keep a good handful of lowers in stock.
