What would be the best time of year to plan an annual meet and greet? Planning it around a place to shoot seems to be out of the question because of memberships and sponsorship.

However if I can get in good at the new range opening up in Richmond....... maybe that would be a good place to start.

lets start with planning what the best time would be. Same time every year. What do you guys think? I have many local business contacts and could get hotels working with us and maybe even a meeting room for a swap meet. etc

Lets hear some ideas.

I can't agree with you more. The holidays make life tough enough.

so since this is "planning", im guessing fall season would be out of of question, since thats basically NOW. haha. so spring time then, March or April? April would probably be better since we usually dont have a chance of snow in April. spring temps. slightly breezy maybe. Richmond doesnt sound bad. i heard of a range over around Culpeper somewhere thats supposedly nice. and theres C2 shooting plaza down on the outside of Va Beach. i went there 2wks ago when i went to Newport News. that place is amazing!

Are there any DNR lands in VA that we could camp and shoot at?

This is the start to a larger plan. It may end up being a big event a year from now, or medium event in the spring. It all depends on resources and timing.

In the former WAHTF, we had an event four times per year called the LCR.
It was held in a gravel pit about two hours south of Seattle on active logging lands owned by DNR (logging rites were leased to Weyerhauser).
The event was open to pretty much the whole WAHTF as long as someone would vouch for you and you weren't an ass.

LCRs were started way back when because the country folks in WA were tired of hearing the city folks whine about not having anywhere to shoot. It turned in to quite the social gathering and brotherhood.

A large group would arrive on Friday morning to begin staking out tent/shelter/trailer space. Some people started drinking, others started shooting, but NEVER did we let the two mix. In the evenings, we supped together and sat around fires trading stories and flinging shit at one another. We had a good group.

On Saturday, we would have an active firing line that started at 0800 with a tannerite alarm clock. The number could range from 20 to 80 to almost 100 active shooters on the line. Some people would only come out for the shoot on Saturday and not camp.

Saturday night would see even more out for camping than on Friday and we had a big party with lots of fellowship. This was a very tight nit group of people, and we did a VERY good job at policing our own. People came from all four corners of Washington state.

My first LCR, i brought with me thousands of rounds and about 7 different guns. By the end, I would only bring something that was interesting. These were great social events, and it's cheaper to sit around and bullshit with your buddies than it is to throw lead all day :)

I very much miss these events, and would very much like to see something similar happen in the VAHTF

The WV crew is always welcome.

Ok, someone give me some details on camp grounds. I need to start a list, and do recon on the areas.

Can always set up camp in the national forest near one of the state shooting ranges, but not too close.

For camping and shooting, the Cove seems to be your place.

Range is probably perfect for a ARFCOM meet up, Full Auto and Tannerite friendly.

The Cove is in Gore, VA. Nearly in WVA.

"The Cove is centrally located within easy driving distance of Baltimore, Washington, Richmond, and Pittsburgh. Go to Gore, 12 miles west of Winchester on U.S. Route 50 West and turn left on Route 751. Take a left onto Route 704 and drive 4.5 miles to Route 683. Take a left on Route 683 and drive 1.5 miles to the Cove headquarters."

It's a large campground down a gravel road past a BSA camp which I can't recall the name of. It also houses some pretty fun/challenging/crazy 4x4 trails. They have monthly offroading meetups there (ask a Sunday morning hungover camper how he knows). As such, the range is up a trail but it's nothing daunting. I made it up last summer in my 2wd 1997 4Runner, so you guys should have no problems末probably won't even need 4wd unless it rains or otherwise precipitates before the meet up.

The place is great, small fee for each person to enter for the range but no big deal.

ETA: Hope this works

I spend most of my time in some of the other forums... don't know a whole lot of other shooters in my immediate area.

Jeez, I wonder what else I've missed out on? Next you'll be telling me we had an earthquake or something.

What do we for those of us that commuter cars that are 2wd and sit low?

I'll drive some guys back in the bed if my ranger if need be.

The bed of my Taco is available too!
