How many of yall 'brine' meat before you smoke it?? Heck, how many of yall know what 'brining' is? lol...dont feel bad if you don't know, I didn't know about it till a couple days ago (google it). My mom loves yard bird and I have me a new smoker so....I'm gonna surprise mom with a smoked chicken to bring to the Christmas dinner on sunday! She has a spiral ham for the main course already but hopefully this yard bird turns out great!! From everything I've read the yard bird will be alot juicier andmore tasty than just a grilled or smoked bird. We'll see. My hair stylist told me her sister brined the turkey for Thanksgiving, 1st she's heard of brining as well, and she said it was AWESOME!! And insisted I do this bird that way and report back to her immidiately...lol. So its sposed to be really good, I'll update ya on this after it gets eatten!!

I've never brined meat before smoking it. A friend's wife brines her turkeys for Thanksgiving and they are excellent, though.

No I haven't. I've heard this blows away beer can chicken though so I went with it.

The bird is smoking right now, 205 degrees in the smoker, the bird is at 170 degrees, it'll be done in a few hours.
Here shortly I'll have the ribs wrapped and ready to cook for about 3 hrs and I'll also have the Elk Backstrap ready to cook as well. Its already wrapped and seasoned n sittin in the fridge.

Eat ya'lls hearts out!!

Well the bird is done, its busy resting in a pan covered in tinfoil. It smells great!
Ribs spent 2 hrs smokin, now they're wrapped in tinfoil and are cookin for another 2ish hrs.
Elk Backstrap is nicely surrounded by a tinfoil tent. I'm giving it 30 more minutes wrapped and then checking it.

Eats ya'lls hearts out you truck stop queens!! lol

The bird was as tender as putting warm butter in your mouth, it literally melted in your mouth!! Mom n dad n my son all loved it.
The Elk backstrap was pretty good as well! Me n dad loved it, theres none left of it.
The ribs....the ribs are deeeeelish!!!!

All in all it was a good day of smoking followed by even better days of eatting! I couldn't have asked for a better day to be out doors to do what I did!!
I did get one of them Beer Can Chicken holders for my grill, I guess I'll give it a shot for this next yardbird I have in my fridge. And one of these days I'll do me a brisket as well....good times and good eattin ahead!
