Silencer Shoot....
Cool. I'll be there with my lonely .22 can and several hosts.
There is a posting and thread on MDShooters.com under "Event Planning"
Dave
Glad you are making it suppressed only.
I'm assuming it's OK to attend even for people who aren't in the BR&GC and won't be bringing a weapon?
I'm only 15 miles away or so and it looks like it might be fun to drop by. Good luck with the planning!
Kinda far, but if I get some buds to go - Road Trip

Don't get there much - persona non grata over some FFL fan boys

Sure is. There are quite a few folks attending that are not bringing weapons but are bringing factory ammo to try someone elses weapon with a can. There are a lot of folks allowing others to shoot their rigs as long as the ammo is factory.
Everyone is welcome. bring a friend or two. Hope to see you there.

Sweet, would love to see you there.
Will post more here as the date draws near.
Still looking for manufacturers and/or vendors that would like to setup a table at the meet.
Dave
While poking around for suppressor information, I noticed that Gemtech advises specifically against using Aguila SSS, as the long bullet doesn't stabilize fully in many firearms. Rifles would probably be OK (I shoot it through my Henry and it's plenty accurate in that, not sure about the first few inches of flight, though) but pistols are absolutely a no-go with a suppressor.

I had a brick of it around that I was planning on bringing, but it looks like the smart move is to leave it at home and just get some standard weight subsonic .22LR.
Just figured I'd share in case some other suppressor noobs were thinking about bringing SSS.
I use both the one you menioned and the 36 grain subsonic. Had issues with CCI going supersonic. I run a TAC 65 and haven't had any issues at all, but IMHO the 60 grain SSS you mentioned would really work well in an upper with a conversion kit. Heavy bullet for a 1:16 twist.
OK - so maybe I will go and I will swap you something for the ammo if you are sure you don't want it. Alternatively we can dispose of it via my CZ 452 and TAC 65 in the proper way.

I will be there with a Gemtech Alpine and several 22lr. hosts.
I'll do a disassemble and cleaning demo for anyone who is interested.
Takes 5 or 10 mins. to perform a "field cleaning".
*disclaimer: I am not a Gemtech rep.

Oh, I'm not trying to get rid of it. It's just the only full-power subsonic stuff that I regularly keep on hand.
I also really like the Super Colibris, but they won't cycle auto actions and it's more like an air pellet in terms of energy.
I was planning on buying ammo for this shindig anyhow, but I figured I would use up what I had and replace it with new.
As it is, though, I might as well just buy a few bricks of the SuperExtra (Aguila's 38 & 40 gr subs) and use that. Ammo doesn't really go bad, and I use it quick enough anyhow, so I won't sweat it.
I'll be sure to take you up on the offer of some trigger time, though!

Well folks the shoot is comng along. Hoping to get some SWAG from some vendors for the event.
Have a couple of dealers that might setup tables for the event as well. Although this IS the first year for this so we will have to wait and see.
Dave
I'm going to make my way to the shoot. Hope to bring a friend how as a silencer on his rifle.
Turnout is looking pretty good. Have not gotten a lot of vendor support, but then again I might be doing that wrong as I have never done this before.
Everyone is welcome and bring a friend.
Dave
So for this I'll need to bring .223, 9mm, .22LR, and .45. What else? Maybe some .308? I'm looking to show the Mrs. a good time with this.
Well as long as it is factory loads, bring what ever youlike. lokes like GemTech will be there and I have 1 or 2 stores lined up that will have some demo units I believe.
Lots of folks bringing all kinds of cans so i think we will have most if not all those calibers covered and then some.
Dave
Going today, hope to meet other ARFCOMMERs there.
Stuck at work this is full of the suck

Dave
First off, it was a great event. You did a hell of a job with it. Had tons of fun shooting all those different types of rifles and handguns.
Also want to say thanks to everyone who allowed us to use their equipment.
OH YEAH, THE WEATHER WAS GREAT!

I had a great time, thank you for putting the event on. Thanks to R & R Enterprises, I love that bolt action .308 with the super long
suppressor. I think the hammer drop and the round hitting the berm were louder than the report. Engage Armament had a bunch
of awesome weapons and thanks to the private owners who allowed us to test drive their equipment.
I hope Berwyn Rod and Gun Club put on the event again.
OMG. That was a bad ass .308 that they had. I had fun shooting that one right there.
Great job Dave!
Great event, great weather, cool gear and plenty of Suppressed & FA goodness.
This thread needs to be moved to GD so it can get the attention it deserves.
The shoot was an awesome time. I cannot believe how friendly everyone was with there firearms. The amount of FA (suppressed) toys available to shoot was incredible. One guy pulled 3 MAC-10s our of his bag and let me do a mag dump.
I brought my single can and a M4 and my MSAR. (the MSAR does not suppress well at all).
Engage Armament was a good group of guys, and they brought more things then I would have imagined, a FA P90s, a group of MP5s, various ARs, a ton of handguns all suppressed of course.
Dave you get a great job of getting this together, and I plan on coming next year. Let me know if you want/need help organizing.

That man is such a gentleman for letting us riff-raff play with his expensive toys.
And he wouldn't even let me replace his ammo (though I completely understand why).
My wife absolutely loved it.
She asks, "So if we join this club, you can shoot a machinegun anytime you want?"
I said, "Well, if you HAVE a machinegun, sure."
She asks me, "Well how much can they cost? Two, three thousand dollars?"
I said, "Uhhhh... closer to ten."
Her:

"Well... maybe one day."
In the meantime, she's been telling
everyone about it. I had no idea my wife liked machineguns so much. I hope it doesn't turn out to be dangerous for my financial stability.

And, secretly, I DO hope it does...

Later, she says to me, "Yeah, I think I should get a can for my rifle so I can shoot it next year."
Of course, what she meant to say was: "I want you to do all the paperwork for me."
So, it looks like I've got some work to do. But there are worse things in life, that's for sure.
Anyhow, we had a
great time. Way more fun than five bucks should buy.
And sorry my Aguila SEs were giving everyone's guns problems, but thanks for letting us try it.
I'm off to write thank-yous to all the vendors. I heartily suggest that you do the same if you appreciated their support.
Thank you so much Dave and everyone. Yes EVERYONE, every single person there was awesome. This was the most fun shooting event I've ever been to or heard of, and my wife had an equally good time which is a quantum leap for her. She's been slowly warming up to things as she had never shot (no family background in firearms AT ALL) until 3-4 years into our relationship (4 years ago) and had always been somewhat intimidated and maybe halfway enthusiastic at best, but yesterday was 100% fun and enjoyment and 100% confidence. The selection of stuff to try was phenomenal and I completely agree everyone was the friendliest I've ever met. EVERYTHING was enjoyable. Mac 10 &11, Uzi (especially cool Uzi, my wife LOVED it...subsonic it is a total dream), MP5's, LWRC with the happy switch, USP's, Glocks, Rugers and BuckMarks... We'll definitely be doing a trust as soon as we can––she's TOTALLY hooked on suppressed shooting.
I can definitely see why Engage Armament has the name: engagement presents, wedding presents, anniversary presents...beats the crap out of diamonds by 10000%. I think my wife would have said yes to marrying me if we weren't already.
Thank you so much, Doc, for the wonderful experience with the MSAR (even if I did have to make myself an eye patch) and super light AR. Is that a 2MOA or 4MOA Aimpoint you have on that? I forgot to ask, as we're shopping for one soon and had been wrestling with 2 vs. 4. Her confidence level with that and the stock all the way in was more than she's ever had. Even if the MSAR doesn't go as quiet as some others, it's still totally enjoyable and a great experience.
So much stuff to buy...

Dude, does she like have a sister that is single? No strings attached, I would just like trade my current model in for one that does not mind me having a machine gun.
Well the 1st Annual Maryland Silencer Shoot is over. It was an AWESOME day. I believe fun was had by all.
Berwyn Gun Club has stated they are willing to do this again. They even asked if I could set something up for the fall time frame. Not sure I will be up for that but will see. Definitely need some help this time.
We had over 90 people attend with 5 vendors and everyone was sharing their toys.
I will be posting a link to pics and video as soon as I am done setting up.
Thanks for coming everyone.

No. But she does have a really hot cousin who is single. Of course, she lives in Chicago and is working on her third (?) art degree, so I don't think that's the droid you're looking for.
But it's always something. Not enough money. Not enough time. Wife's a party pooper. Kids say they need food more than you need a machinegun... bah.
Honestly, though, it's not a huge deal to me. I've shot M-16s in the Navy before and that first big high is gone for me. Now, an automatic weapon is still cool, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't hold a lot of novelty, that's all. With the expense and hassle that's required to do it, it's really not worth it to me. But my wife is a different story. She thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced cat pajamas. So she's more than welcome to save her pennies and get whatever she wants. But for just me, I wouldn't ever want to do it.
If I'm going to get into NFA toys, suppressors are on the top of the list to go first.
Figuring out how best to share photos...will be up soon.
I think the next time the guys from AR15 should put on name tags with their online persona.
I would have loved to talk to the guys who are on here. Dave when you say you need help,
do you need more Berwyn members to step up or outside help from non members. Don't know
how much help I could be but would be willing to consider helping out. Let me know.
As was stated before more fun than $5 should legally buy. I dropped another $20 on ammo but would be
willing to pony up more to shoot more. The guys who allowed us to play with their toys and not accept
payment or ammunition were great. Next time I think I will be bringing a few boxes of each.
Keep it up Dave, Great Time. Thanks.
Ok folks, I have some pictures up from the shoot.
2011 Maryland Silencer Shoot
Will be updating the picture captions and adding videos as I can.
Enjoy!
Dave
4th picture in titled e3 is fire_medic checking in.
Sweet, will try to get some pictures edited tonight or at least this weekend.
Dave
If we're doing post-event "introductions," then my wife and I are here \/ \/ (she's in the red sweatshirt)
We were admiring/shooting the SRT Arms' 9mm AR, I think. That was a nice rifle. I forget who it belongs to, but thank you for the trigger time!
That was about the same time you were polluting my suppressed .22 AR15 with the Aquila subsonic ammo.

That stuff is silly quiet in my bolt guns, but none of my semi auto's really like it. Glad you had a good time. The Aimpoint on my Colt 6920 was an Aimpoint Comp M2 with 4 MOA dot. I finally broke away from my lane an got to play with Engage Armaments full auto toys. I really loved the 10.5 LWRC m16 with Surefire can. Can't wait to do it again next year.
