I have been trying to get a definate answer to this question, I have asked about 5 or 6 people in LE and FFL's and have received 5 or 6 different answers. Are short barrel rifles/shotguns, select fire firearms, suppressors and DD's legal in DE with proper permits? And if so what permits and what's the process like? Can anyone help me out on this one?
Thanks for clearing this up for me- Diomed.

SBR's are OK with proper ATF paper work. but, you have to get your local LEO to sign off on your paper work. If your in Sussex county good luck. I've been try to get one to sign one for about two years now. No luck.

SBS's are NOT Legal

By Suppressor you mean Silencers they are NOT Legal as well.

DD's: I'm not sure what that means.

I hope this helps.

Use a trust to purchase it. I didn't even ask my local LEO if he would sign or not.

Thank you for the information. I will have to check into the required paperwork and forms needed for the ATF.

When you say local LEO, do you mean the Sherriff. Did he deny your request or ignore you? Can you provide details, I am interested in building a SBR and looking at my options of local LEO sign off vs trust.

I talked to the State Police. I can't remember his name. He was going on about why do I want to own a gun like that. I tried to explain that I had rights to own a SBR but he didn't care about my rights. If you know what I mean. I didn't know you could go to the Sheriff.

When I applied for my FFL 03 Curio and Relic Lisc. I sent my paperwork to the Sherriff Reed, and he signed off. Remember, that the Sherriff is an elected official, and when need be, they can be a little more concerned with the voting public. State police -ehh- they have their own agenda.

I haven't meet the current Sherriff, from what I understand he is well liked and has a good reputation.

You only need to notify the CLEO on a 03 FFL - he doesn't get to "approve" a Federal FFL. That;s what I remember from my C&R application.

That is true.

That also doesn't stop them from sending a letter to all parties involved anyhow.

I waited for about 4 months for my 03. I got a letter from my local PD chief stating something along the lines of, "At this time, we cannot find anything that would prevent the issuance of the license." Very reluctant-sounding and kindof a "we're watching you" type of deal. Then a few days later I got the license.

The two events are probably unrelated, but my paranoid foil-wearing side has to assume that government agencies do, indeed, talk to each other every now and then.

DE and MD gun laws are both a bit rough, but I think DE has the better end of the stick by a slight margin. Sorry about your (lack of) NFA toys, though. It's too bad, really. Not that SBRs/SBSs/suppressors should be regulated in the first place, but...

I have a copy of my letter - it was quite friendly actually. They can talk all they like - I think they have their hands full with real criminals. Some law-abiding, old guy with 1935 firearms shouldn't really concern them much I'd guess. Doubt I could mount much of a defense with an M44 and Mosin Nagant

Mosin Nagants are dangerous to the hearing of everyone within 1/4 mile, all vegetation closer than ten feet of the muzzle, and the shoulder of the poor soul behind it.

To a SWAT team, probably not so much.
