Tiki Bar owner going to jail, fired AR15 at youths

Cliffs:
3 youths were hunting with permission, went into lake to retrieve geese.
Dude fired 30 rounds from Ar 15 into lake near them, claimed they hit his house with pellets.
Turns out he's a felon due to a previous coke possession charge.
Oops.

So how is PG county sentencing him for a crime that happened in California? I'm still not clear on that part.
