Made My Last Visit To The Gun Center in Frederick
My wife and I do most of our grocery shopping at the commissary at Ft. Detrick. While my wife is shopping, I usually run over to The Gun Center to check out their stuff and chat with the guys there. When Jack was running the place, I always had a nice time, and although I didn't buy anything most of the time, I did buy a few guns there, as well as ammo and other gun-related stuff.
Old Jack passed away about 18 months ago, and from what I understand, his son is running the place now. He's not as talkative as ol' Jack was, but I still liked to stop in and chew the fat a little, and check out the guns they have for sale. The place has expanded to about 3 times the size it was when Jack was running it, so there is a lot more to look at (and when I say "look at", I don't mean that I ask to handle the stuff).
Anyway, the last several times that I've been in the place, the guy there has been downright unfriendly. Not overtly hostile, but acting as if I was interupting some really important business... even though there was no one else there, and the phone wasn't ringing.
So I guess he just doesn't want my business. He's got some super-nice Beretta-labelled wool sweaters at about $200 each, and I'd love to have one for next winter. But I'll buy one somewhere else.
Jack's son is an asshole 1st Class...
Was the guy behind the counter slim and about 6'? If so He's an ex-Leo and is against anyone having CC other than LEOs.
I quit shopping there when Jack passed.
Maybe he just doesn't like you.
Just sayin'

Likely. I bought a Tyler T-grip and got ripped off. That company had a huge following and great reputation. Funny how after the father dies, the kids run the business into the ground. I'm sure the gunshop is the same.

I spent a good portion of my working career in retail, and had a lot of customers I didn't like. But I always treated them like they were my best friends. They may have been assholes, but they spent money in my store, and that put money in my pocket. Any store employee that doesn't understand this principle needs to be in another line of work.

This
I quit going to the Gun Center when he was still on Evergreen Point/ Rt85. Went in to get a couple of .22 mags and he started going off on some guy that asked to buy a hunting license.
Went to pay for my mags and he starts going off on me on how the state only pays him .50 to sell a license and it isn't worth his time bla bla bla.
I remember I bought a Ruger Mk II from him and he didn't even say thank you.
no loss as far as I'm concerned
It is so odd how so many gun dealers are A holes. Everytime I walk into a store I get set to meet a dick. Im right 50% of the time. I make sure I only patronize the stores where I like the people. There are some stores in maryland that have exactly what I want all the time but are run by dicks. I would rather go somewhere else that is a little less convenient and has to order it.
Thats to bad, but you have to remember Jack's son isnt Old jack.
Cruise over and talk to Richard at Glade Valley Sporting Goods. Big machine-gunner. I'm broke nowadays, but it was nice to roll in there and bullshit from time to time, and pick up my transfers as well. South of Routzhans off of 355.
