Time to renew my CCW and I've got some questions

So I'm going to fly back to the States to spend Thanksgiving with family in the Ft Wayne area and I realized my CCW expired this past April. I'll only be back from the 20th-29th. How long does it take now-a-days to renew a CCW? If I remember correctly, when I first got it I had to do some paperwork and pay part of the fee and then wait a week or so before going back to get fingerprints done and paying the last part of the fee. Is this still the case or can I do it all in 1 shot? I'd like to get the lifetime one now that they are available (I got my 4 year one right before they started the lifetime). Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm still looking for information regarding the expired permit and renewal process, but one thing you could do is check this website:

http://aries.in.gov/Firearms/Permit.aspx

To see if your county is participating in the online renewal process. Fingerprinting is still required, but you might be able to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting before you arrive by starting the process online.

Excellent! Thanks for the link, Lykos. That should make a big difference.

Expired takes as long as a new license, about 3-6 weeks from start to arrival in the mail. I renewed mine after it expired while I was in VA for 4 years and when I got back, I got the lifetime. It was the same as a new application and took just as long. You can get it applied for in one day, and you can do all the paperwork-on line and then do the fingerprinting at the police station, then get the money order and send it in. At least that is the way I did it two years ago after getting back to Indiana.

Did you have to get the "Life Pers Protect no Current License $75 State/$50 Local" or "Life Pers Protect w/ Current License $60 State/$40 Local" since your previous license had expired? On the website I filled it out with the latter but I'm not sure if that was right or not. I don't know if I would be considered "with current license".

Do the on line application for your county. Set up an appointment with L1 Solutions for fingerprints. This will add $10 (+/-) to you total cost but your License will arrive in less than 2 weeks. (According to the guys over on INGO)

I would think that if it had expired, it would not be current and you would have to pay "full price". If you are a service member they might make an exception. It would not hurt to ask.

Do without current license.

My total was $125 so I guess it was the first one since I did not currently hold an Indiana CCW. And since I now lived in IN instead of VA, my VA CCW was no longer valid either. Small price to pay though IMO.
