Little Indian Creek 4/28/2012
We will be conducting a review of range safety, a general introduction to the AR-15 system, sighting in, and target practice on
Saturday April 28th 2012 at Little Indian Creek Conservation Area.
It appears that sunrise is set for 6:07am on April 28th, and the range 'opens' a half hour after sunrise, so we will go ahead and
meet at 6:00 am and begin doing a range safety brief and talk about the nomenclature and sighting in procedures for the AR-15.
(The main reason why we will be meeting so early, is to ensure that we have ample time to shoot, and try to arrive at the range and claim some spots before others)
Please bring with you
-AR-15
-Ammunition - Qty: Sighting in will require a minimum of 10 rounds.
-Servicable Magazines
-A servicable sling for your AR-15
-Lubricant for your AR-15
-Any tools neccessary for your AR-15
-Ear protection (electronic preferred)
-Eye protection (ANSI Z87.1 or higher)
-Baseball style cap with a bill to deflect ejected brass
-Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
-Hydration source
-Appropiate paper targets for sighting in and target practice
-Staple gun with staples for mounting targets
-folding/camp chair (optional)

Also, lets go ahead and start up a roster of everyone that plans on attending, we will need this because if we get groups larger than 10 people we will need to apply for a special use permit.

Turkey hunters are gonna love you guys.
I never thought of that. Is the range even open during hunting seasons?
The range is closed only on Mondays, for maintenance. The only other time I have seen it closed is after a snow and the road / hill was impassable.
Turkeys will be used to the sound.

That

I'm gonna try NOT to be in the woods so I can make this event.
So I should put you down as +1 maybe?

Yep. I'll update as it gets closer though.

He mentioned the turkey
hunters, not the turkeys.
I wouldn't worry about turkeys getting mad.

If the turkey hunters are hunting around an open range, then the sound should not bother them as well.
Otherwise, screw'em.
I'm in.
In like Flynn.
I posted in the other thread but I might have a lead on private property that is down in a valley we could meet at and do this. I'll know in a few more days if thats doable if the land owner will give permission.
and I'm in for this as it sits now too.

Count me in as well. I will be coming straight from work but should make it by 6am. Looking forward to it...!
I'm in.
Whats the agenda for the day? Other than a safety brief, sighting in and talking about AR's?

Honestly, thats about it...it's meant to be an easy day at the range working on basic fundamentals before we get too deep.
I will be making arrangements for a special use permit for this date. If you think you are attending, please indicate so I can have a number to report.
Also, since we will be sharing the range with other folks, please leave your tac-cool gear at home. Dress normally. Our purpose will be a safety briefing and sighting in on a known distance range. If we finish early we can meet for a late breakfast a the Du-Cum-In in Sullivan.
ETA: Cause spelling and grammar are fundamental

wisdom in this post
As far as I can tell now, I'll be there, despite it being so early.

For those of you that mentioned being able to use private property for this meeting, is there any way that we could actually do that?

Only if you do not want to shoot from a solid rest. The advantage of using LI Creek is the known distances (25, 50 & 100 yards) and the solid benches to shoot off of.
If we decide to go to private property the distances would not necessarily be a problem (providing we have a good back stop), but the benches could be a problem. I have a 300' tape measure and 3 portable shooting benches along with 60 lb. tube sandbags I could bring. But, I really do not want to carry all this gear around if I don't have to.
As of now, I'm in.
Bump
Put me in as another +1 maybe.
I'm in just no AR 4 me
I have private property we could use but its out in BFE to most of you.
We could do over 300 yard shots possibly further. I have a LaRue Fast target setup and have match style targets we could set out anywhere we want as far as yards. I have a fold out table I take so you can do seated shooting.
Property is down in St. Gen between Highway 55 and 67 with Farmington being on the other side. It's exactly 15 minutes from farmington or 15 minutes from the 55 south st. gen exit right in the middle.
On the flip side we could hit a steak house in farmington when we are done and its private so we can do whatever. Would have to ask about tannernite as the last time I did that neighobrs cows broke fence.

DEW IT!
I'm in at either place
I'm going to go ahead and say there's no chance in hell I'll be there at 6AM. I've got my oldest son doing a Boy Scout merit badge at the StL Zoo Friday night through late Saturday morning. 8:30AM is the time they have us listed to vacate our campout gear from the zoo-grounds, so I'm not likely to be out to Sullivan until 10AM at best.
I will still plan to show up when I show up, so I can get through whatever is on the agenda, but I'm going to be 4 hours late, at least.
Sorry, but I have to put the Boy Scout stuff first on my priorities list these days.
Okay this is just over a week away and since stlmarine will not be attending I need to get an accurate count of who will be in attendance.
I have the special use permit and we are good to go for sighting in only.
Not being a morning person it is quite a stretch for me to get there that early. If interest has died then I have zero problem skipping this event and I can spend my time Turkey hunting instead.
So boys, what's up.
As stated, I won't be there at 6:30. No way, no how.
I do plan to be there around 10:30, or if everyone agrees to a later time. I'll keep watching this thread.
Im over an hour away, so 6 am is pretty damn early. I would be game for something a bit later. Just my two cents though. ;)
I'm in for whatever time we want as long as there is enough attendance to make it worth the trip...I don't really need to sight in anything but I'm all up for shooting and a meet and greet

Bump for update....anyone going?
I had originally said I was going but since I was away all last weekend for the instructor class, this Saturday is a no go for me.
I had something come up and I won't be able to make it.
So is the general consensus to cancel this get-together due to a lack of interest?
its looking that way
If canceled altogether lets reschedule.... I'm good just about any Saturday!

This!
I tell ya what. I will be there Saturday and if anyone wants to show, so be it. Originally we were scheduled for 6 am and that is what our special use permit says.
the idea behind starting early is so we would have the use of the range without allot of other people in attendance. If you would like to start later in the morning, that is fine by me, we may just have less benches to work off off.
Again, what does this group want to do. And another weekend is not an option.
I won't be able to make it. I will verify my sights on my own before the next meet up.

I wasn't part of the original group, but since your going to be there and went through the process of getting the special permit . I'll be your huckleberry.
I was going to make a range trip this week might as well be saturday. Let me know what time if it gets pushed to a later time.
Man... If it wasn't so danged early... Thats my only problem. :/
I'd have to leave here at 4AM.
If it would be easier for people to make we could start at 8 am.
Who's in?
IN. Any one have a spotting scope?
In for 10:30 or so, like before.
Sorry, scouts come first.

That's cool Joe, we should still be there.
I do not have a spotting scope but will bring a set of binoculars and splatter targets.
