why cant places just make what I want???
I looked around for someone who would guarantee that my new Dawson Precision sights would fit in their holster and kept hearing "buy it and try it" but I needed it to work and fairly soon.....so I made one! (Also made one for my .22 that noone makes a holster for!) Used the one for the Glock 17 in last weekends CMMG 3-gun and it did great!

I looked around and tried to find a mag holder that would hold 308 PMags......dead end after dead end....so I made one!
Here is the rough start with a few chicago screws instead of rivets....I like em, and they let me adjust the tension from the mag falls out to you arent getting it out...

Looks great. I always wanted to try working with kydex and have never gotten around to it
NICE tablecloth!!

Where do you get everything to make the holsters?
Knifekits.com
Didn't buy a kit. Bought pieces of kydex, 2' of the foam, rivets, and belt clips. Found out I hated the belt clips and like the Tek-Lok connectors with my next order.
I like the Chicago screws better than e rivets, but could see using them both together on a lot of items.
My next project may or may not work out well, but I'm probably going to use leanman's help, do 60-70% of it with a heat gun, and hopefully will have a one off 5-mag holder for my FNP45 mags to use in heavy metal 3-gun......limited to 8-10 rounds per mag, so I will be downloading them and need more than I would with full 15rd capacity.
If someone were going to get into making they're own holsters, I would recommend picking up 2' of the foam, use scrap 10-12" by 12" pieces of boards, order 4-5 pieces of kydex (you will make more after the first one), 5-6 Tek-Lok connectors, get a 100ct bag of rivets, 20-30 chicago screws, a cheap heat gun (overnight and stove can do the same thing), order the drill bit they sell, and the cheap tool for finishing the rivets with a hammer. Be patient and realize you can undo any screwup by heating it back up and removing the shaping.
Leaving it in the oven a few seconds too long can cause it to shrink up corners a little.....a little tug on it by hand will bring it back to original size.
Have you tried Burger King? They are happy to let you "have it your way".....

I've been there a few times......asked for a GOOD burger and every time got a crappy meat puck on a bun with pathetic bacon flavored strips.
You can definitely see how some practice doing it can lead to some nicer holsters and mag holders like you made there. I'm just making for me and helping a friend or two out.
I will say that it is definitely fun to play with, but I always like working with my hands.
Definitely like building as a hobbie better. Got to the point where I had no time to build for myself and my family couldn't handle me working all day and night.

After playing with a piece of Kydex WAY too long tonight to make a mag holder for my FNP.
Have a 12"x24" piece of clear Holstex (like Kydex as far as I know). Might have to take ya up on a build party if you are near KC/Liberty. I'd really like to make a clear set of Holstex for 3-gun: holster for Glock 17 (tall sights), mag holder for two mags, and a mag holder for a PMag. I have a TekLok for each one, lots of rivets, the Holstex, a heat gun, and a "press" made of boards and foam.
Willing to bet I could talk Leanman into splitting beer and pizza with me to have a successful build party that resulted in both of us walking away with good knowledge and workable toys.

Crazy. Just started this holster today. first time I've used the holstex. So far only difference is that it cracks easily if worked to hard. I live behind worlds of fun and am down with a build party. this week I'm working overtime hours, but next week am open after 5:00 tuesday thru thursday. Pick a day and let me know.
Do you have a drill press and a belt sander?

I'll check and see what we can put together. Unfortunately I don't have a drill press or belt sander. Leanman has a somewhat portable drill press. I've been using a razor knife to widdle down a little then a dremel with sanding drum to clean edges up. I'll pick up a bench belt sander one day, I loved using one when helping with motorcycle parts.
I close my office (Barry Road near Ambassador) at 6pm M-F, so your time frame would work fine. I wish I had everything at the office.
The Holstex looks good. I had considered using a color for the back plate and the Holstex on the outside, or all Holstex. Might have to play with it and see what looks best. Since I'm planning to use for 3-gun, I'm not to concerned about how well it blends in for CCW, hunting, or super covert tactical maneuvers on the farm (hahaha).....so flashy is fine with me.
Sweet. Looking forward to meeting you guys. I have an old belt sander I can bring. My drill press is a bench mount so I can muscle it with me too. The drill press also doubles as a rivet press which works great and fast for the rivets.

Wow! Looks like you guys are getting right good at that!
One question though. I notice, especially in the pic of the holstex model, that the "forming" of the material is really tight to the pistol including really entering the ejection port and trigger guard areas. At least that's how it looks from here. Any issues with the holster having too much retention due to such a highly invasive level of molding?

That's tip number one. I use a piece of kydex cut the same shape as ejection port to keep the mold from forming into it. What you see is barely pushed in yet gives it the appearance of being there. Had issues with retention before using this method and had to releave the impression after the holster was built. prepping the firearm before pressing is the way I keep all the definition without dealing with over retention and losing the crisp look.
