Anybody else experience this? my knee gets stuck...
recently, i've been waking up from sleeping to find my right knee feels uncomfortable. when it feels like this, its always slightly bent, and i feel like its stuck. when i apply more force to move it, it feels like it clicks or pops, and almost feels like two bones are making contact with each other, but then its movable again. it doesn't hurt when this happens, but feels pretty damn uncomfortable! i'm only 32 by the way, and have never had any traumas to my legs, and i don't do crazy physical things to wear my knees out.
Get checked.
I'm about ten years younger than you...I do crazy physical things, and this happens pretty much every time I stand up from sitting or squatting or laying down.
Get checked, every case is different....you may be fixable and avoid some larger problem down the road.

I had that issue, turns out my ACL had been blown out years ago. What would happen to me is I couldnt extend my leg all the way and Id have to sit with my leg out and push down on my knee while trying to extend my leg and I could feel it twist at my knee and rotate back into place. You have all kinds of ligaments and tendons that stabilize that joint and if they are torn your knee can rotate out of place. Go see a good Ortho.
I had to same thing. Knee stuck and clicked. No pain and didn't really bother me. Orthopaedic doc did MRI or CAT scan (hell I don't remember), and found torn meniscus (two places). Out patient surgery and good as new. Get it checked, because it will get worse.
most prolly torn meniscus, not a big deal docs take out mine like 25 years ago, never had a problem
I put up with something similar for 2-3 years. Then one day while coming out from underneath my truck, I went to stand-up, and my knee completely gave out with some excruciating pain to boot. Get checked. It is also far easier to get to your appointment when you can still walk into the office without someone holding you up.
I've had something similar since Friday, woke up and my right knee didn't really want to support weight easily, it's slowly been getting better. Mainly a hassle when going up or down stairs, I've been doing stretches and taking NSAIDs to try to relieve the symptoms.
I have gout and can tell you, thats NOT what this is. See a doc.
Torn meniscus. Easy surgery and right as rain in a few days.
Get checked by a medical professional; if you are cleared, start doing squats.
It sounds counter-intuitive, but squatting strengthens and protects your knees long term.

Fixed. Almost no one without a trainer does squats correctly. You can jack stuff up just as badly through terrible motions, and it only gets worse as you add weight or go faster. And squats are far and away not the only exercise needed to strengthen all four mucles in the quad. I'm not quite 5 months post-op on ACL reconstruction, and I can do squats and leg presses, but when it comes to walking forward down a hill, I've got no strength. The front of the knee, where the ACL is, is also where all the weight is going down a hill. It's also where you DON'T put the weight when doing squats. Leg extensions are one of the major exercises to fix this.

Agreed, and good post.

I disagree, I have gout also and I can tell when the Uric Acid Crystals are building up. What ever joint it is about to attack starts clicking.
So I was trying to figure out what I could have done to screw my knee up, if it is actually screwed up...
I think stuffing my 6'3" frame beind the wheel of a patrol car may have done it. I can only move the seat back so far because of the cage, and to comfortably drive, i have to lay my right leg over at a slight angle. Then its on and off the gas and brake all day at this odd angle. Its the only thing I can think of, because sometimes I get this uncomfortable but not painful feeling when I'm driving that kinda feels like my knee does when it gets stuck.

Do your joints lock up as mentioned??? I have never experienced this and neither has my dad, he has it as well. Anyhow, it doesn't make any difference he can't get a prescription for any gout medicine unless he goes to the doc haha. My idiot doc. said they won't even do refills unless I go in for a visit again.
Had the same thing many years ago. Bucket handle tear of the inner meniscus. Don't know what caused it. Gymnastics? Army? Motorcycle tumbles?
Anyway, I fought it for years and finally found a surgeon who diagnosed it correctly and confirmed it with a camera. Drive-thru surgery.
That was back in the early 80s and it's been fine ever since. I was a borderline cripple up until I got it fixed and I was in my mid 30s.
Find a good orthopedic doc, and don't wait like I did.

I have had both elbows lock up at 90 degrees, thats just after the clicking starts. Most of the time I get it in my feet and a few times in the knees. As far as meds go, I wont even try to spell them but my Dr. passes it freely. Dont really see any street value in this stuff.

Usually when there is "catching" in the knee there is internal derangement, Meniscus Tear. As previously mentioned, an ACL tear can cause the same catching but you will notice additional instability in Weight Bearing; however, an ACL tear usually is accompanied by a Meniscus Tear due to the anatomy of the knee.
Get checked out by an Ortho/Sports Med MD, prob need an MRI to assess the level of tear and whether you are a surgical candidate or not.
Good Luck

I'm only 22 and have pops and cracks from all different places. My friend had a piece of bone from his femur where it meets the knee break off and was floating around near his knee, so I would definitely get it looked at.
