A little while back. I was kinda taken aback when I did a transfer at that cost.

Darrel has a $20 transfer fee and is a block from my apartment.

You think OGS is a ripoff? I know accessories and ammo are typically overpriced at small local gun shops, but I think Mike is pretty reasonable on guns. You can always beat gunshop prices by going online, but sometimes it's good to be able to see the merchandise in person.

Pretty much everything I've looked at over the years have been overpriced.

I did buy a GSG1911 from them at a price that couldn't be beat once you added shipping + FFL, but that's been about it.

Just my experience.

Pawn Market in Topeka, on U.S. Hwy 24, I know this is out of the way but if you ever go that way they are great to deal with, appreciate your business, don't harass you, and charge 15 bucks last I knew.

Now that my transfers don't even require a phone call (less employee time) I'm going to have to renegotiate what I'll pay for this service.

First, let's address my post count. I've been a long time lurker on the site but only bothered registering last month and my first post was today. If you have a problem with that, stop reading now. I've posted for years on other sites, m1911.org, brianenos.com, etc. With that out of the way, I would not characterize Olathe Gun Shop as a ripoff in any way at all! Can you get some of the stuff they stock cheaper on the internet? Sure, but that can be said about every local gun shop. Is every employee at OGS the best you've ever dealt with? Some are better than others but they're all pretty good. Is Mike honest and will he give you a good deal? Absolutely! I've bought new and used guns from OGS and Mike and his staff have always been friendly, knowledgeable, easy to deal with and honest.

Want an example? I was looking for a particular gun about a month ago and went in with a specific request. Mike took the time to explain the pros and cons of brands he stocks, brands he can get and brands he doesn't deal with at all. In the end, he stopped me from spending $1,400 on a rifle that I didn't need even though it meant that I was going to go somewhere else to get what was best for me.

Another example: A friend of mine bought a new gun at OGS that he ended up not liking after putting a box or two of ammo through it. He took it back to OGS and asked Mike what he could do for him given the situation. Remember, the gun was fine, he just didn't feel like it was going to be the right carry gun for him. He hadn't even cleaned it, just brought it straight from the range to OGS. Mike told him to pick something else and gave him full credit for the returned gun even though he knew that he was going to lose money by putting it in his used inventory.

Another example: My boss bought a Franchi over/under from a guy who had won it at a fund raiser silent auction. The gun had been donated by a gun shop in Missouri and did not come from OGS. It had never been fired. He took it to the range and one of the barrels wouldn't fire. A quick phone call to OGS and Mike said he had seen this type of problem before and told my boss to bring the gun in. Mike took care of all of the arrangements for warranty service from Franchi even though he had nothing to gain. The gun didn't come from him and he wasn't making any money on a warranty shipment.

If you want more examples I have them. Just ask. My point here is not to trash anyone. I only responded because I saw what I believe to be a completely inaccurate claim about my favorite gun shop.

You get what you pay for. Go in and talk to Mike. He'll give you a good deal. Then go talk to the guys over at the Bullet Hole in OP and compare it to what you get there. Still have a problem? Send me a private message and I'll meet you at OGS and help you get your problems resolved.

Full disclosure: I am not an employee of OGS nor have I ever been one. I have no financial interest in Olathe Gun Shop and I have never received anything from them other than good advice, a decent price and great service. One other thing... The last gun I bought? It was off the used rack at Harrison Gun and Pawn. Go see my post in the Stag Arms forum for more about it.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Mike is a great guy, and his employees are all very professional. Nobody would say the same about the people at the B Hole.

Darrel at D9 is extremely easy to deal with for $20. I even met him at his office, a block from mine, to pick up a transfer lower. Express Police Supply in Lenexa is only $10, but they are only open M-F 8-4. Sucky times for me, but a good price.

If you ever find yourself down in the Southeast part of the state, Double Eagle firearms in Arkansas City is the best place I've ever dealt with.

You'll probably never end up down there, but I figured I'd go ahead and mention my favorite gun shop anyways.

This. Great guy. Have done business with him in the past and will continue to in the future. Now OGS? Lol at them. I walked in to that shop around 4 years ago just to browse for AK's as I was intending on buying one. The store employees were typical of most gun shops-shooting the shit with the regulars, no time for new customers which is an exceptional business model I might add. I asked to look at a Century International Arms Romanian AK47, black synthetic handguards, underfolding stock. It looked good, felt good in the hands. The sticker price? $429.00 . This was when they were all the rage and I could purchase them from multiple other dealers for $299.99. When I looked at the price I started laughing uncontrollably and the wife and left. Never went back.
