Hello!

After I graduate in May I will be moving from Minnesota to Salina, Kansas for at least four months to do a training gig for my new job. I am hoping you guys can help me with some information about Kansas, and Salina in particular:

The most important thing right off the bat: Where to shoot? I belong to a fantastic club here in Minnesota where I shoot trap, USPSA, and am starting to get involved in 3-gun. Are there clubs/ranges in and around the Salina area?

Anyone here have any good tips on finding a place to rent in Salina?

Is there anything an out-of-stater like me should know about Kansas? (cultural/politcal/etc)

I've lived a number of places around the country and am always excited to move somewhere new!

Be careful with Salina if you have a family. It is easy to end up living in a shady/ran down area. Drugs are an issue, specifically meth. So just be sure to check the neighborhood out before signing a lease.

You need to join up on KSCCW.com, the KS concealed carry forum, as you'll find lots of good info there on places to shoot. I grew up in SoCal and moved to Salina when I was ~21 or so to go to KSU-S. Nice little town. Not tons of stuff to do, but they've got most things you need.

As far as places to shoot, there is a range in Ellsworth, IIRC, which is ~30 mins west of Salina. The Outback Shooting Range is a nice location as well (outdoors) and is probably about 40 mins or so South of there (west of McPherson). We did 3-Gun at the Outback last year.

There used to be, maybe there still is (???), a range in Salina on the Southwest corner of the airport property. It's in an old bunker and isn't anything to write home about. Ask around and you'll probably get pointed in the right direction.

This.

KSCCW.com is an excellent source of information and pretty low drama, especially for an internet forum.
