Rio Grande Estates is a small community in the southern part of Valencia County in an unincorporated area known as Rio Communities. The land varies from low-lying flood plain with irrigation to higher mesa with sandy soil. Homes also vary from small, unincorporated and who knows to some very nice homes along the golf course. It varies widely and depends on which street you are considering.

Anything with a golf name such as Lee Trevino or whatnot should be a pretty nice place. It is located directly east across the Rio Grande from a town called Belen, NM. Belen serves as a major hub for the BNSF railroad and is a small, tough town. About 6500 population. Don't know what Rio Communities pop. is since I don't know its borders very well. I live north about six miles or so but pass through and close to it regularly.

Many older and retired folks live in the golf course homes. The fire dept. is a volunteer dept. that is pretty well supported by the community and regularly holds fundraiser pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners which are well-attended as far as I know.

It's fairly close to the manzano mountains which have great hiking, camping, and hunting. The Rio Grande isn't very 'grande', but it provides good waterfowling and some fishing. The clear ditches which are used for flood irrigation also provide good fishing.

Hope this helps. Shoot me a PM if you need more info.
