I just graduated school and am job searching, so far no luck in Tyler where i live. I have a business degree with 5 years previous experience but cant find squat around here

My wife is a RN and has had another clinic basically beg her to move down there, so we are currently thinking about making the move.

The only thing stopping me is the fact i do not have employment yet, and its a pretty big move since we have two kids ages 5 and 7 months.

How are the public schools around the area? Our oldest is currently in private school but we would like to cut that expense.

Is the traffic as bad as Austin?

Decent Job market?

any shooting ranges around?

Thanks for any info

Things are especially thin for recent grads. Make sure you emphasize your prior experience.

Round Rock and Pflugerville districts both have the reputation for being better than Austin, but I've also heard it varies from school to school, so you need to check the actual school your kids would be going to.

Depends on what part of Round Rock. I35 goes right through and it is just as bad as in Austin. Other parts not quite as bad. But it is probably still not going to be what you are used to. And it is likely you may end up working in Austin which means you will have to deal with it.

Decent Job market?

Compared to other parts of the country, maybe... But it isn't great. Regardless of the BS the government and media spew we are still in a major recession. Seriously look on sites like indeed.com, etc. down here before you make a commitment.

Yes, Red's Indoor Range North in Pflugerville, Austin Rifle Club in Manor isn't far... Best of the West in Liberty Hill isn't far, nor is Eagle Peak in Leander or Stan's and Astro Range in Florence. A little bit futher away is Lone Star Range in Lockhart... there are a few others around...

Thanks for any info

Hope that helps.

Good luck to you. Are you planning to rent or buy? If you are looking to buy, the area where I live is relatively quite and inexpensive (relative to the Austin area, probably still expensive compared to Tyler). Houses in my neighborhood in particular are going between $100k-$150k for 1600-2400 sq ft. 2 car garage, 3 or 4 br, 2-1/2 bath, depending on the floor plan.

rent for a few months until I am able to settle into a job. We will want to have the shortest commute possible for the both of us and it will give us time to check the schools out.

those prices are actually cheaper than our area, we couldn't believe it

we where looking at spending around 230k for a 2600 sq ft in a nice area.

There are plenty of places you can spend that or more in the Austin area, but you can also go lower if you know where to look. Generally having an Austin zip code will cost a lot more compared to most of the suburbs, on the initial house and also on taxes, fees and utilities.

I live in RR. What kind of job are you looking for?

We love it here, moved here from Seattle 5 years ago. Lots of jobs, especially tech related ones.
