Well, I had a good (short) run in free America............
About 2 years living in SC, and now I'm back in NY as of Monday. Family issues. Fam comes before anything, but it still sucks having to give up the gun goodies, etc (and a girlfriend of about 6 years, but that's a whole 'nother thread

).
Guys, the grass really is greener on the other side. I hope you all get to enjoy it someday and I know most of you have plans to. Here's to those plans working out for you.
I sold a few of my goodies, while some were technically legal in NY, before I left. Everything else that is either flat-out illegal here for a mere civilian like me or just too much of a hassle to deal with in NY at the moment, I left with a friend back in SC to hold onto until I move back out of NY in the future (or for the pistols; until I get my permit here).............
or until the AWB and pistol permit system is done away with. Whichever comes first.
I see a lot of familiar people still posting, and a lot of new guys. Just wanted to swing back in and say "See ya 'round the HTF".

Damn...my condolences.
What county? How long will it take to get your Carry permit?
Does the fact that you have lived in NY state in the past get rid of the residency time requirement some counties have?

Broome County. I'm not sure about the residency issue. I haven't looked into any of it yet.
Honestly, I'm not even in much of a hurry to get my permit. The only pistol I could have shipped up and be able to shoot right away is my SP101. All of my others are Glocks with 10+ round postban mags. So I'd need to hunt down pre-bans and pay up for them. I'm not even sure of the going price. (I could always get 10 rounders, but meh. A G26 is even more enticing to me now, since 10 rounds is standard for them.)
We'll see. Just like when I lived here before, my ability to shoot is going to be pretty limited, due to lack of places to shoot. So I'm not too concerned about it at the moment.
Sorry to hear. Welcome back to cell block NY

Family comes first.
I don't know what you people are talking about. I live in Delaware County, which is great for unrestricted permits, prebans are cheap now and I can shoot in my backyard, which is priceless for fixing the stupid piece of shit Remington 870 that I just bought and testing to see if it works after two failed attempts to have it fixed by Remington themselves.
So NY doesn't have to be bad, it depends where you live.
Welcome back.
Where in SC did you live?
welcome back. Its a shame that suck a beautiful state is run by assholes
If my daughter didn't live here I would be gone by now.

Oh I agree...I live in Monroe County (rochester area) and we get unrestricted permits too...And there are at least 5 ranges within 30 minutes of me...nice ones...GCL in Penfield, Canandaigua etc. Many places in NYS are pretty damn great...minus the whole state wide AWB...
What is wrong with your 870???
I bought one a few years ago...an 870 express synthetic youth 20 gauge...it's not even one of the "older tougher" models of 870s...I run it HARD with #3 buck, slugs, and birdshot, and it has never had a single issue...tough as nails. Patterns great at 15-25 yards too.

I agree for the moment. Unfortunately that could all change in 2013 if the Democrats take majority control of the NY Senate in November. The .50 ban (true ban), AWB II (true ban), microstamping and a host of other statewide anti-gun bills will likely be enacted into law in 2013-2014.
Your name makes sense again.....

Aww man I meant to introduce myself to you. Saw you on a couple threads in the Carolina HTF. Sorry to hear you had to leave. PM me if you need anything and sorry to hear you are back in the 'great state of NY'. At least the HTF is solid as hell. It definitely makes things a bit better. Hope you make an escape as soon as you can.
Thanks for the welcome back, fellas.

Like I've said before; If they'd just make NYC it's own state, they can keep their high taxes and awful gun laws. Let the rest of NY join free America. Aside from the snow, it would be pretty nice.
There's one thing that I noticed pretty quickly that NY has over SC. That's the lack of "No concealed weapons allowed" signs up here. I'm not sure about the rest of NY, but I've never once seen one up here where I live. Of course, I attribute that more to residents' lack of knowledge of how many people actually carry in NY, or lack of knowledge that people even
can carry in NY.........................as opposed to this area being very gun-loving (this will vary from place to place, I'm sure). But still, it's nice knowing you can basically carry anywhere that's not on the normal restrictions list; fed buildings, etc, etc, etc. I saw quite a few signs prohibiting carry where I lived in SC. Granted, a lot of them didn't mean a damn thing, because they didn't meet state requirements to make them "legal".
Also, there's not even a restriction up here in NY that says you can't carry where they serve alcohol, right? There is in SC (which is sort of in the process of being nixed from the books). If an establishment sells alcohol and you can consume it on property.........you can't carry there.

That means pretty much every restaurant is no-go for carry. Ridiculous.

Myrtle Beach (southern end, less rowdy kids, more family oriented). We lived about 10-15 minutes from the beach. I'm going to miss that, too. For me, there was nothing better to clear your head than to hit the pier and just relax and watch the waves and whatnot. I was even known to partake in the stereotypical "long walks on the beach".

Those would be the straws that would make me leave despite family. VT is about 30 miles from here.
Those of us that love New York welcome you back.

"Superfoot" I own several 870's and they have served me well for years.....Damn, everything Remington product I own from the run-of-the mill to a fine product from the Custom Shop has never failed me.
Hope you have better luck with yours....What was the problem?
Brother Mike....call should you need a thing my friend.

Thanks.
Yeah, no matter where I move, NY will always be "home".

Just bite the bullet and move already you big baby. Life is short and you'll be dead a long time.
Like I should talk.

Someone may or may not have pics of the accused from years ago when he went away with a NYHT ex-co-mod for a weekend romp. Packed in his suitcase were a pair of edible panties, several cans of whipped cream, a jar of maraschino cherries and a squeeze bottle of chocolate syrup.

Sounds like the same guys at the factory who built and repaired my piece of shit 1187P twice are the same ones working on your 870.

My condolences, but family does come first. Hopefully you can get back down there soon.
Didn't I meet you at a gun show at Myrtle last year ?

I'm having a complete brain-fart. I'm not sure.

It's probably the foul non-free air here in New Yorkistan that's causing your brain to swell. By next month you'll be in a nursing home not remembering your own name.
that sucks, welcome back

I was thinking the same thing.

This is possible.

They didn't call him RumpRanger in the old days for nuthin'. Those were the days when ARFCOM was a fun place to hang out.

Well if that's not enough there might have been a video or two with HR and Lola the NYHT Forum mascot.
