Carry gun - Full frame vs Pocket gun?

I carry a Springfield XDm in the .40 S&W with a 4 1/2" barrel. I know its not as concealable as a compact or a pocket gun. I can draw, point and shoot quickly and accurately with it. Id like to get a smaller pocket gun especially for the hot summer days. However in a high stress situation when i would actually need the gun my concern is that when you experience the loss of fine motor skills that operation and manipulation of a pocket gun would be allmost impossible. Not to mention rootin around in your pocket to find it. It just seems to me that when you lose the fine motor skills the full frame would be more user friendly. Does anyone have experience or thoughts on this?

There are plenty of pocket guns that are point and shoot no fine motor skill necessary. I feel the rule is to ALWAYS carry a firearm if you find yourself knocking on doors in the hood dress for and carry a cannon. If you are at Hooters after the beach the pocket gun in your shorts is better then nothing.

I would stay away from mouse guns; LCP, TCP, etc. They are cool, but just to small. I guess, they are fine for specific situations.

Compact single stack 9s are nice for summer carry. Thin, light, powerful. Kahr PM9 and Keltec PF9 are great guns and very light. perfect for carry, but will wear your hand out shooting at a range. I went with the Walther PPS 9. A little heavier than the other 2, but not much bigger. It is very thin and easy to conceal. It is light, but heavy enough to shoot at the range all day.

The bottom line is to carry the "best" gun for your situation.
If you going to church, you are likely able to conceal a full size gun under your suit.
If you are going jogging, a 6" .44 mag isn't reasonable. So carry a sub-compact in your fanny pack or something.

I have 3 different guns for various levels of concealment, and carry the largest one that I can reasonable get away with.

With a good belt, holster & some forethought you can conceal a lot more gun than most people think. I carry am M&P9 year round.

I use the biggest gun I can comfortably carry.

It's either a XD45 Service or LW Commander.

The Commander length 1911 is hard to beat as a carry gun.
