Where is the best place to get one? I see STI's on their website, but I don't see too many other places advertising such a thing.

Thanks!

Best place? Hard to say. The best in the world have shot CZs, STIs, SVIs, Caspians, etc...

85 pages of Open/Race Gun info here.

EGW, Les Baer, Clark, and Dawson are some names I know.

You can also Google/Yahoo search:

Depends on what division you plan on shooting in.

I have seen folks have really good results with off the rack STI open guns. (Trubor, Trubor GM and Matchmaster)

That said, I have seen folks have varying degrees of relaibility with off the rack Limited guns. (Edge, Eagle, etc.) May have something to do with using the 40S&W round. However, there are a few builders that offer a "tuned" gun or semi-custom Limited gun that seem to run great as long as you do your due deligence when loading your ammo. (Brazos, Dawson)

This is going to sound stupid, I know, but I don't really plan on shooting competition with it. I just always wanted one. I've also wanted .38 Super, just to see what it's like.

Well, most Open Gun shooters have gone to using 9mm or .38SuperComp with the majority leaning towards 9mm.

For your intended purpose, I suggest an off the shelf STI Trubor in 9mm.

That said, your looking at $3K+ toy that uses fairly expensive mags and is really only useful in the gun game world. Sounds completely normal to me, enjoy!

Really? 9mm? Is the thought that the points differences between major and minor don't matter and that speed does?

It's possible to make major with a 9mm. The difference between major and minor definitely matters.

in open division you can use 9 in major as long as you make powerfactor

I have Brazos Custom guns, Limited (.40) and Open (.38 Super) and couldn't be happier with them. Top notch in every way.

I usually build my own guns for competition, but after shooting an FGW gun I'm selling my Limited gun and having Bobby build one for me. There are a ton of gunsmiths that do full customs. I've seen a few but certainly not all. Bobby built the prize table Open gun for the Ohio state match, it was quite nice.

Gents,
My revisit rate for this thread has been abysmal, so I apologize for the lateness of this.

Thank you all for your assistance. I greatly appreciate it

I've had Derek at Millennium Custom build me three guns, and he does outstanding work.

Wow - I'm way too young to be old fashioned all ready. But there was only Open and Limited when I started shooting USPSA. A "race gun" was (and in my mind still is) an Open blaster. If it doesn't have a dot & comp, it's just another Limited gun.
